Hi all

Booking velocity flight Bne to Dublin, via Doha on Qatar on business (the one and only time i will fly long haul business)

Points 158k for full flight however Virgin state i have to fly their nominated flight ex Doha otherwise have to pay as separate sectors which is a lot more points.

I thought as as long as the layover was < 24h I could choose what flight I wanted. I was hoping to spend longer in Doha to better check out qatar lounge .

Thoughts and advice?

Hi @Craigsee , welcome to AFF! Funny timing as I'm currently in the process of writing an article on this exact topic!

My understanding is that you should be able to cobble together pretty much whatever flights you can find into a multi sector rewards booking with Velocity, as long as there are rewards seats available of course 🙂

However, I have also recently struggled with the velocity call centre not being helpful or maybe not understanding how to put together these bookings.

Was it just one agent who told you this? And did you ask them to price the itinerary for you? Sometimes unfortunately we need to hang up and call again if the agent we're chatting with isn't able to help!

It may be that sectors are inventory controlled for the purpose of awards.. so you can only take specified combinations.

Other than the architecture and à la carte restaurant, there is nothing ‘special’ about the QR lounge in Doha. While the steak at the restaurant was ‘ok’ I wouldn’t be going out of my way to spend extra points for it.

You never know, your inbound could arrive early, and your departure delayed… so you might get time anyway!

Try another agent as per the advice above, but if no luck, it might not be such a loss.

Just one agent. I did pressure them to check with someone else, but she wouldn't. I also requested in different ways in case she mis understood . She was emphatic that unless the full trip was available on the website, she couldn't substitute a different flight

I've found the easiest way, once you get someone willing to help you, is to say "I want to book a multi city/sector rewards itinerary" and then just give the flight information (departure, arrival, time, number etc), they should be able to price it for you from there

Hi Steph123
I've just spent far too much time speaking with velocity call centre and was eventually put through to a " specialist".
The upshot was that if I want to fly from Bne to Dub with Qatar and pay the points price for that flight (ie 158,500) I have to accept the flight they nominate for the ongoing flight from DOH to DUB.

If I want to fly on a different flight from DOH to DUB a couple of hours later or any within 24 hrs of arriving i have to pay as two separate sectors ie 119500 bne to doh and 74000? Doh to Dublin. They state this is for all international long haul velocity flights regardless of airline.

Geez they are hard to talk to. They agree you can do something when u discuss generally but when it comes to the details they have all these reasons why u cant

Wow, that is incredibly frustrating. Having been a victim of the velocity call centre myself I understand the pain 😅

I can't offer any words of wisdom here as I've not had this experience, but I will say I'd be interested to know for what reason they are being adamant about this...

Actually just had a read through the other thread that MELso posted, and someone there said they had better luck booking through the online chat. If you're not burnt out by all this, you could give that a go?
