Over the years I had acquired abt 102K MU pts - o/w J MEL-PVG is 85K pts so I redeemed a o/w J MEL-PVG which I flew on April 10 this year. I had intended to do a mini trip report but TBH the experience was so bad it did not warrant me wasting time on it.

I did however take a few pics of the near new 33E that MU are trumpeting on theor web site - these few pics will give you a bit of a view of the cabin:

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And a few more:

In seat power and USB outlet took a bit of finding - in typical Chinese fashion it is actually situated in an almost inaccessible location:

AS I said the was a redemption - when MU first started PVG-MEL they had 2.1K fares on old 767 - zero amenities in and around the seat - but the seat was so COMFORTABLE to sit in - shocking to sleep on - but great to sit in. IMHO seat comfort for sitting is now a foreign concept to airlines. Anyways in those early MU days they served Taittinger - now they serve some vinegar which I cannot even remember the name but it was barely drinkable - food just so so.

Service intent EXCELLENT - delivery QUESTIONABLE - but it is MU - it is not SQ / CX / MH ?TG etc.

As I said early days you could ret J for 2.1K - now you can still but J ret for 3.2K if you buy a month or 2 in advance I think - prices rise to 3.8K or so if you book later - I think. IMHO if you need to get to from PVG and are on a budget then MU at 3.2K would be just OK IMHO - I would never pay 3.8K - but of course the big advantage is direct flt. Sorry for brevity but it is all MU J deserves IMHO.

Same seat as Air China on their A330-200s. Very comfortable! (And for me all that is important on the long flight to China).

Ah. Even with day flights I sleep the entire way otherwise too tired to go out :(
How old are you? You should be ashamed of yourself at your age! One day you going to sleep forever - no need to go chasing it whilst you fit and healthy!

Just the thread i was looking for... Im flying MU BKK-KIX and wondering if J will be worth it. With a 1:55am departure... some sleep along the way would be good. What do you guys think?

it all depends on the aircraft type! if its a 737/320 recline in business class is next to nothing - a few inches.

if it is a larger aircraft you may get something better.

IMHO - MU J ordinary to say the least - don't know what else I can say - your reasoning for flying MU?

Yeah thats the one.... Just thought id try a different product as well as the timing fits in well with my plans. I didnt think it would be something special but by the sounds of it, it isnt even worthy of trying.
