Hi All,
I know this has been canvassed in different ways a few times, but I have found myself in a state of confusion, my brain is probably pre-drinking all that Krug.

I am looking to book DEL-SIN-PER, with DEL-SIN in Suites and SIN-PER in J as there is no First.

Separate bookings will cost me the following Krisflyer Points (15% online booking discount included):
DEL-SIN in Suites = 42500
SIN-PER in J = 27625
TOTAL: 70,125 points

Combined booking by ringing the call centre and asking them to do a mixed award F/J will cost me the same as if I was flying the whole route in First according to the bottom of the award chart.

So Zone 6 (India) to Zone 8 (Perth): 87,500 points.

Getting the call centre to apply the 15% discount as I can't book a mixed award myself: 74,375 points.

Am I correct in thinking that it will be cheaper for me to book DEL-SIN, then SIN-PER as separate redemptions? As doing separate booking seems to be 4250 points cheaper than a combined F/J award?

I must be missing something here!!!

Cheers,
Cleaver

I think i understand the question! I think you are right in that the separate bookings is the way to go. i think that the longer trip is the SIN-PER leg so you are effectively over paying for the second leg if there is no F. I haven't checked whether the points you quote are correct but it sounds logical to me.

Cheers LadyC - that makes sense to me.

I do wonder whether the taxes and fees for booking separate legs PER-SIN then SIN-DEL will make it more worthwhile to just fork out the extra 4250 points to get the call centre to book it all as one award redemption. I know taxes and fees for SIN-DEL suites is $250.

Any thoughts off the top of your head?

Good point on taxes and fees. Point to point, you would think would be more expensive. I would think that if you ran a dummy J booking online, that taxes and fees amount should be the same as the mixed fare? Otherwise, just call and ask - I have always found the call centre very helpful.

Taxes and fees to book separate legs
PER-SIN in J - $280
SIN-DEL in Suites - $250
TOTAL: $530

PER-DEL as one award in J = $495

So a pretty negligible difference.

Booking separate legs it is!

I think your calculations are pretty accurate and probably separate bookings best way to go. Only hiccup I can forsee is booking complete itinerary as one rdpt at F rates GUARANTEES you access to TPR - this should not be a big issue however as you can get access to TPR on arrival from DEL - how long will your transit be?
