So I just did a dummy booking in Google Flights for return DUD-BNE in Nov...it came up as $336, so naturally I thought it had come through as US pricing...clicked through to VA site and nope, it was NZD. I have booked it, but it seems to good to be true? I paid ~AU$330 recently for an advance purchase mid week BNE-DUD o.w fare.

Seems like there is tough competition on the TT market! I saw WLG-MEL one-way for NZD167 on QF recently.

It's not a mistake fare - that price is legit (and very good).

This is the only TT route out of DUD...
Competition doesn't have to be route specific, it can be targeted to a whole region or country. QF compete with VA in Tasmania, but sometimes put DPO on sale even though VA is not flying to DPO. Of course only the airlines know if a given sale is due to low overall demand or direct competition in the same market.

The introduction of the SQ flight that stops in MEL before continuing to WLG has probably helped things. A friend and I just booked tickets to Wellington for September. My friend is flying from Melbourne and got a $304 return SQ flight. I have to connect from Hobart with VA, but even then it only comes to just over $400 return. It’s only a little more than a HOB-SYD that weekend (our original plan before we spotted those TT fares).
