Misread expiry date of SC's, now no Platinum

I'm just doing my head in, I've been working myself and my wife through Gold (then renewing Gold), and then wife onto "almost" Platinum this past year. I accidentally misread the date for the expiration of my wife's SC's for last year, they were flown on the 17th January 2013 but processed on the 25th January 2013 due to the Sabre cutover and everything being delayed. So we flew VA or partners exclusively, and as of the 16 January 2014 my wife was on 960 SC's with our return flights home booked for the 23rd January (before the 25th expiry), and of course, on the 17th she lost 240SC's knocking her down to 720SC's. What's cruel is, we had flown from PNG to NZ and were flying a bit of AirNZ domestically, and I didn't bump to a SC earning fare because I thought I didn't need too. If I spent the extra few hundred she would have been Platinum before the 17th. Come the 23rd of January and wife now has 840SC's - when she would have had 1080SC's if I hadn't misread the activity date.

I spent quite a bit of time on the phone to the Gold line, and they said that there wasn't anything they could do - but to email the Gold contact center. Emailed the Gold contact center, and they basically were unsympathetic and said no. So I emailed them again, and got an email back with the line "we have to be fair to all our Velocity members" and quoted a bunch of T&C's. So I emailed again (still awaiting a response).

I've just PMed VFF on AFF, but I'm not holding out much hope. Has anyone else been in this predicament? Do you think it is fair to ask for a 40 SC comp?

I am a bit dirty on it, as wife hit Silver on the 25th January 2013 as that was the processed review date for the SC's she flew on the 17th January 2013. So quite alright for Velocity to not give 8 days worth of benefit, but it doesn't work the other way around... I'm pretty gutted as I had ample opportunity to add SC's to her, in fact I over compensated when I earned the extra 400 SC's to re-qualify Gold 6 months earlier... And here I was talking it up, how she would be looked after etc etc etc - when she heard the news, if looks could kill.... :(

I see no problem with VA attitude. Cannot follow if this is a qualification or requalification for the same status level.
With QF the average over past years seems to have an influence

The end of qualification year is a date (that you know)
The end of qualification year is not a date plus 1 day
The end of qualification year is not a date plus 2 days
The end of qualification year is not a date plus 3 days
The end of qualification year is not a date plus 4 days
The end of qualification year is not a date plus 5 days
The end of qualification year is not a date plus 6 days and so it goes on

The number of SC'c for of qualification is a fixed number (that you know)
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 5
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 10
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 15
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 20
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 30
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 40
The number of SC'c for of qualification is not the published number less 50 and so it goes on

So how long will your wife have 840 SCs? And while she's got them, can either of you do a quick run somewhere to find those additional SCs? If you pool to her and both went on a MEL-SYD return in J or similar, there's your 160 SCs (though I don't know how feasible that is if you're based in PNG..)

That's a bugger.
Especially when so many nonloyal flyers from QF got a free leg up not once, but twice.

Unfortunately it is correct for Velocity not to give you an additional 8 days. Nothing you can do about it, just learn from it and don't make the same mistake next year.

Experience is what you get when you don't get the result you were after...

Never make the same mistake twice - the wife might not forgive you a second time. Always pays to check and re-check. I've done similar things (not with VA FF) and life's experiences are a great learning curve.

Well at least due to all the loopholes in their systems you can still easily secure the coveted row 3 even without being a plat!
Think positive!

Luckily for you, platinum is also a metal readily available in jewellery shops ... And it lasts longer than 12 months.

Just sayin' :p

I like row 3 - she likes row 4 - go figure!

As a followup to all this, and I do appreciate the comments (I was getting ready to suck it up as per), last night I logged into our accounts to organise flights in March and "hello!" wife is now Platinum. I do need to do a nice email to the team today. To top it off - it was our 15th wedding anniversary yesterday, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Yeah - that's where she likes Gold - lol :) which only lasts longer if someone doesn't pinch it off ya ;)

Very, very fortunate. I can imagine how pleased you are with the outcome. :D

As the precedent has now been set I expect all people on AFF now do not have to meet the requirements to get VA Platinum.
Or Velocity will publically reduce the levels/times?
We wait for VA written responce

"One off" acts of kindness never go astray and are good for loyalty :D

Nicely done for being circumspect about it highflyingkiwi and similar kudos to VFF for assessing the situation and making the call. I'm sure that VFF lurking here was of benefit ;)

I expect everyone to check and double check their VFF account for the correct assessment date :!:

Just wondering if you have the same issue with status matches? Or 20 point comps after having a status match in the first place?

They must have assessed this on it's merits, hopefully noted that over the 12 month period that account had received 1080 SC's, but due to the flight date rather than applied date it didn't apply this way.

I've also had this the other way where the points added kicked into the next level with the loss of points due to the carrying day having more SC's than required. Maybe that also helped, as it is something I could have proven should have been applied to the account but weren't - but personally, I didn't go there. I admitted my mistake, completely genuinely, and they assessed that on it's merits. I am extremely pleased that they did, and they will continue to receive all our loyalty. It also saved me from having my testicl_s cut off by the wife - so win all round I say.

Hi Guys,

Looking for some clarification.

I have 200 SC's earned on 07/06/13, processed 08/06/13

On May 31 this year I will have 990 SC's and a flight booked for 07/06/14.

Will I get my WP?

Question is, do the SC's from 2013 expire at the start of the day, or the end of the day?

Thanks.

I reckon the 200 SC's will drop off before the flight on the 07/06/14 is credited.
