I don't know how they come up with the times, however I would expect some kind of standard time is calculated for each separate item and and rounded up.
I was purely referring to dom -> dom but I know intl -> dom and dom -> intl can be a problem.

I know that not allowing enough connection time can lead to hassles but interesting to know that at least there are some MCT's observed and the booking engine is wise enough to know some of the rules :!:

And judging by above messages MCT is variable based on which airport is used. :?

It can vary within an airport. e.g. T3-T3 may be different to T2-T3

Qantas Schedule change

I am glad I changed my flight to an earlier one, I was told that the flight I was originally booked on from ADL-SYD (QF774) has been changed to QF1174 and departing an hour later . If I had remained on QF774 I would have arrived in SYD at 10.10pm and with my MH142 departing at 10.20pm I would have missed the connection. Qantas would have denied responsibility!

With the change, they would have allowed you to change to an earlier flight so you would have been none the worse for it

Back in the days of Ansett, I had booked an award flight on Qantas Syd-Bne and then was connecting to an AN award flight to Bundaburg. The Qantas flight had mechanical problems and was delayed by 1.5 hours. Qantas were talking to all their passengers that had connections on Qantas flights but said it was up to me to rearrange my AN flight. Fortunately I was able to do that.
It's not an issue these days as all my travel is Qantas domestic and international.
I had a personal trip returning to BNE and an international work trip booked separately on the day I returned. I think I allowed about 1.5 hours between the 2 flights. My luggage was booked all the way through to Beijing and I think I even got my international boarding pass in Brisbane (It was a few years ago now and I'm sure about my baggage but not so sure about the boarding pass).
Anyhow, they were 2 separate bookings and I only mentioned my onward trip at checkin in BNE.. I was very impressed that I didn't have to carry my bags around to international.. I hadn't even thought about trying to link my two bookings until checkin at BNE.
This was also at the time when it was hit at miss at flying on an international aircraft with Skybed to HK. I'd been to a 40th birthday in Brisbane and so was stuffed with the early morning flight from BNE to Syd.. The the HK flight had a skybed.. I was one happy traveller :D :D :D
