From Loyalty Lobby. Miles and More are sending out targeted offers to those currently Senator, who apparently won't achieve Senator in the coming year. They can maintain Senator for 2,000 euros.

Interesting concept. I wonder how much a current QFF Platinum would pay to maintain Platinum, if they knew they were dropping back to Gold there was no chance of being comped?

Yes, I received this a couple years back, with a month to go for re-qualification - 2000 euros back then as well (2013 from memory).

You'd almost be better off buying Star Alliance Gold status from Avianca for USD2200.

At a guess some people would pay AUD1,000-2,000 to keep Qantas Platinum as they are prepared to spend that much on flights when they are close.

Would you pay more? Can't see how you can get that much benefit out of Platinum status.

Personally, I wouldn't pay anything for plat status, as I'm LTG already and internationally, I fly business anyway (although that probably won't last :) )

Oh, maybe $500 or so if my accountant said it was a legit tax deduction.

For me, there would be certainly more incentive to pay $2000 to renew QF Pl then there is to maintain Avianca or LH status.

The main difference is that *G offers close to no benefits on any star alliance flights if you are already flying J. OWE on the other hand gives you incremental benefits with F lounge access and check-in, even if you are a J flyer.

Incidentally, $2000 seems to be around the lowest price I've seen for people to actually get AA EXP status by doing these crazy mileage runs on those super cheap AA fares that we see time to time. With this method, you'd have to endure going through 100k butt-in-seat miles in miserable Y class but at least you'd have 100k mile to redeem (maybe more due to status bonuses) + 8 systemwide upgrades.
