Middle name missing

Hello everyone:

I booked a ticket for myself and mine 3 years old, but I forgot put his middle name while booking. The flight is from Adelaide to China, Australia part is carried by Virgin. Will this cause a problem? I know that this question has been asked quite often and the answer is No. However, I read some people were not allowed to board the flight in 2019.

I have contacted the Hainan airline and they said the name can't be changed since a part of the trip is provided by Virgin airlines. However, Virgin airlines says the name can be changed but I have to ask the Hainan airline to make the change as they don't hold the ticket.

thanks for your reply, if those airlines can not help me fix the problem before I go to the airport, I would possibly leave it as is.
