Folks,

We have an upcoming transit of ~4 hours between a PEN-SIN MI flight and a SIN-MEL JQ flight. Two PNRs and, of course, no interlining of checked luggage.

Is any AFFer able to advise whether it is possible to remain airside and check our luggage in at the transfer desk in T2, or do we have to do the customs and immigration thing before transferring landside to T1 to check in prior to some eventual flounging? :)

Many thanks, arraitch

Luggage collection is after immigration at SIN, so you will have to pick up bags if they are unable to interline. However, immigration/luggage will take you about 15-20 minutes at Changi and then you just walk upstairs to checkin again - should only take 30 mins out of your Flounging :p

That said, I have found MI/SQ surprisingly accomodating in terms of interlining bags, so it may be worth at least asking when you first check-in. Lets face it, you don't lose anything by asking  Have fun!

Belated thanks for your response, drmikki. In the absence of feedback from others, I'll try asking nicely when checking in at PEN and see how far that gets us. With no MI status and el cheapo fares, I'll let you know how we go!

Well, I asked nicely at PEN and initially received a positive response ... until I pulled out the JQ itinerary. No go, unfortunately. Still, thanks to drmikki for the suggestion. Due to typically Singaporean efficiency we only missed about half an hour of Flounging which, at Changi, is no great loss.
