Looks like the iPads in Australia are going to be a while before arriving and then even later before we see a 3G version. To get myself up and running on a mobile basis I shelled out $179 for the Huawei E5 mobile 3G wi-fi modem with a pre-paid data allowance of 2gb.

A few little configuration steps (Hint, the WEP code is printed underneath the battery and needs to be recorded before turning on so that you can connect via wi-fi to allow you to config.)

I was able to get configured totally wirelessly without connecting the modem via a PC.

The modem is nice and small and fits into a pocket but I don't considering the unknown radiation hazard.

While I may have done away with lugging the laptop bag and power leads, I now have iPad, iPhone, mi-fi. I'll need an extra charger to recharge this lot at the end of each period.

I'm looking for a nice iPad pouch that offer iPad protection, space for the mi-fi and usb leads.

Another two steps forward for technology and maybe one step back.

It has been around since about October last year, we were going to get one at home but decided on getting the BB at home product (with the home phone) and usb sitcks for travelling

Same charger for iPad and iPhone. Does the mifi charge via USB?

If so you could get a kensington multi country adapter that can charge USB devices - one plug - three devices charged (not at the same time of course).

I am still working out the best option for Oz coverage and can't wait to see pricing for the data here in Oz.

Out of interest - what type of sim does the mifi run on?

Mi-fi charges via USB as well.

Problem wit the three devised is that usually I like to put one on charge and come back the next day. Three devices will just take a little juggling.

Apparently DSE have them in store fro $99 with 5Gb if activated this month, not a bad option for the WIFI only iPADs etc.
