Hi All,

New to MH and am looking at making a booking, but am having trouble working out the upgrade process, so have a couple of questions:

1. Can any economy flight be upgraded to business?
2. Can an itinerary (e.g. SYD-KUL-FRA) be upgraded as one upgrade, or does it need to be done as two separate upgrades as per QF?
3. Can the upgrade be done online, as does the discount apply?
4. If I do an upgrade via my MH account, is it then possible to change the FF# so I can use the F Lounge?

Thanks for any help!

Luis

Answers to your question:
1. No. Only economy tickets purchased in the MHsmart and MHflex categories are eligible for upgrades.
2. I'm not sure. It will depend on whether the whole ticket is under one PNR or two. If it's one PNR, the fare category should be the same and, therefore, it should only be one upgrade (it's priced according to zone categories). The complicating factor, of course, is that an itinerary like that will be on separate flight numbers, unlike the QF flights to London, which is one flight number.
3. Definitely not. You have to call up the call service centre (on 132627) and organise the upgrade that way. No discount for upgrades.
4. That question is no longer relevant given the answer of Q3. However, you just need to show your QFF platinum card (even if there is an MH Enrich number on your boarding pass) and you will be eligible to use the F lounge.

Hope that helps!

I think you should upgrade to an airline where they don't lose their planes for a week and counting.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Any airline can have an incident. The kind of blundering incompetence that MAS and its officials have shown over the last week since the incident is why I will never fly MAS again. But YMMV, obviously. And you have the right to say so. As do I.

That is your prerogative, but it doesn't take away from the fact about how insensitive your comment was. Not really on topic was it?

Clearly, everyone involved in the search for the missing plane's blunderingly incompetent so far because the plane is STILL MISSING and that would include the different countries that have offered their assistance in this mystery.

Oh, and the French (and Air France) must've been incompetent too because it took about 4 or 5 years to solve the mystery of what happened to AF447 in 2009.

Thanks MH_FAN, much appreciated. One more quick one, is availability the same as award seat availability (i.e. if I can see an award seat, can I upgrade)?

I believe so. I know that was the case in the past but since they changed to a dynamic pricing structure for redemption tickets, I'm no longer certain. I would assume that upgrade availability should be there if a redemption ticket for the "cheapest fare" is available. I hope that helps to answer your question.

It's about as insensitive as saying that even though Steve Irwin applied sunscreen, it still didn't stop harmful rays...

I flew MH from MEL to MNL recently.

It was the night flight, one of three daillies.

Checkin opened at about 2130 for the 0045 departure. I asked and the clerk checked with the supervisor: Y to J upgrades were available for A$493 one way, which while I did not take it up (because there were so many empty Y seats that I ended up with four seats in the middle to myself!), I thought was great value (cheaper than what a return business class fare might cost assuming that it was a similar upgrade fee on the return).

The one question I forgot to ask was whether the upgrade covered MEL to KUL only, or MEL - KUL - MNL but the clerk knew my destination so it may be for all of that trip.

When I boarded J was not full, but had a higher percentage seat occupancy than Y from what I could see.

Agree you have a right to state your views. However the OP was not seeking your views on MH in relation the recent incident, and not helpful in this context. Plus the blundering is mostly the Malaysian officials not MAS.

Now I polities to the OP LuisH for taking this off topic.

Recently flew MH143 KUL-SYD paid to upgrade from Y to J was RM1300. For some reason was booked in "U" class but a J seat. Looks like I will have to call MH or QF to get the points & SC credited into my QF FF account.

Just upgraded MEL-KUL-SIN using Enrich points, and I can confirm upgrade is on zone based system, not per flight. I was (for obvious reasons) only interested in upgrading the MEL-KUL sector but I asked them to price the KUL-SIN sector as well and it made no difference to the points requirement. Different to many programs that are based on separate points for each flight number.
