First time poster but certainly a long-time enthusiast of the Australian Frequent Flyer discussion boards!

Resulting from the Virgin status match I have been progressively 'converted' away from flying Qantas where I have been a Platinum member for a number of years. This was mainly due to being thoroughly impressed with the consistent service and professionalism of the Virgin Crew in Business Class; something that has been so amiss with Qantas in recent years...

I was wondering, as part of the ‘conversion’ I also took full advantage of the Hilton Diamond membership, which I have started to make some use of. On signing up (which was November 2011) I was under the impression that the membership would expire after six months but would be extended for a further six months after four stays. Just had a proper look at the card and noticed the expiry says 03/2013…

Perhaps this was covered elsewhere, but does anyone know why this is?

Many thanks

Hi virginconvert,

Welcome to AFF. :D

This has been discussed a few times and seems to be the norm so I would just accept it as a bonus.

Someone may post a link to previous discussion or I'll look when i get back later.

We think it is is unintentional (and we should probably stop posting about it). Hilton (like many American programs) have a calendar year qualification process rather than the Qantas/virgin process which is tied to an individual anniversary rate. If you qualify in 2011 you will then get status with Hilton until March 2013. We don't think that Hilton systems are configured to have status that expires during the year - hence having cards with the status on it expiring 3/20xx. If you had taken the status with Hilton this calendar year your card would have said 2014

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The card I received said expiry 03/2012.

Amusingly I only received it this week.

Telephone the Diamond desk urgently and get it resolved. They did the same to me, but when pointed out to them, they very quickly rectified it. I actually now have 3/2014 rather than 3/2013 due to this annomoly.

We don't all think it's unintentional. So far very few have reached that magical 6 month date. If the 4 stays were not made, then maybe they will drop off the diamond list or maybe they won't. We don't actually know just yet, but should start hearing about it fairly soon (It may only become apparant after the end of March). What I do know, is that Hilton most certainly knows when our 6 month date is up......whether they cancel diamond (regardless of card date...remember Hilton goes of the computer, not the card) if 4 stays were not completed is something we don't know.........yet.

PS, I tried to link to the other thread, but the link appears to be broken (The Virgin Australia Master Thread - How long for complementary hotel status to come through).

Mrs F has an expiry date of 3/2014 on her card which she applied for in January.
We only just noticed this. As she is not getting stay credit due to her booking through a corp TA, we are hoping this date will stand.
