A small issue I know but on my weekly visits to T1 I'm shocked everytime that the big signage on the outside of the building is still the 1984 qantas logo and font. It's been TEN YEARS since the last one came in and now we have another (I note by the way, that Sydney T3 has had all its signage updated to latest version already). It looks very dated and worn. In their second busiest port you would think things like this would get a bit more priority. Anyone have any idea why this has never been done?

Meanwhile the virgin T3 has a very stylish new logo (for a couple of years now).

Probably same reason as various aircraft and a bunch of other signs haven't changed.

It's still identifiable as Qantas, the changes were relatively minor, and signage and paint is expensive and has a given life.

I'm sure at some point it will get an update.

Qantas don't care about MEL, the state of the facilities in MEL are atrocious, but QF won't spend anything on them at all.

Granted that all international airlines state that they receive more premium bookings into and out of SYD than MEL, but with Melbourne's population continuing to grow faster than Sydney's, will QF suddenly care a bit more about MEL if it becomes Australia's busiest airport in the next 20 years?

Domestically, MEL is not far behind SYD in passenger numbers although internationally SYD's market share is still around 40 per cent while MEL's is around 25 per cent. Growth of both is slowing with consumer confidence mixed.

There are a number of destinations that QF doesn't fly to directly from MEL, but only SYD. Connecting from domestic to international and vice versa is much better in MEL than in SYD. QF could make better use of this by flying more flights out of MEL if they wanted to.

I've love to be able to fly MEL-SFO direct non-stop on QF, but they don't provide the option. If QF did all the same international routes from both MEL and SYD the gap in market share would be smaller.

Melbourne Domestic T1, still has the old blue TAA signs in the terminals!

I suspect the mostly reason for the imbalance is that there are so many more flights into and out of SYD. One is often forced to fly through there from MEL, regardless of inconvenience because of the route or fare class.

I am happy to sell my solution to QF. Step one: bulldoze MEL and start again. Step two: the end.

I reckon every other international terminal in Australia needs to be rebuilt and combined with domestic terminals before MEL.

Aesthetics aside MEL has a fairly easy DOM-INT connection compared to most other terminals in Australia.

Quite right. At least at MEL, you arrive in the same building (unless you fly Jetstar and Tiger). It's an easy walk to the next plane.

T4 is connected as part of the same building as well
Sure is, but 'weirdly'.

For many intents it isn't connected in a manner that is traditionally functional.

Try collecting your luggage after a T4 arrival and rechecking for an onward flight without going "outside".

It's like the architect had a brief to have a connected building but make those having to connect feel LCC.

There was an architect?

Yep, I try to enter/exit Australia via MEL whenever possible because D-I is so much better then anywhere else.
