MEL Transit!!! Please Advise!

Hello! I arrive in MEL on EK flying in F from AKL @ 740pm and fly out on EY F @1010pm (on separate reservations obviously), I have no checked luggage and would just be a transiting pax (will be checked in online already) but have been following recent flight arrivals with EK 407 which seem to be arriving closer to 8pm.

[FONT=Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]Do you think I am cutting it too close with the EK flight? I have the option to switch to an earlier flight out of AKL on QF but flying J on a 737 which is obviously a huge downgrade but may be the better decision ?

Also, does EK give any kind of fast track customs card for F pax? And would I be able to use an express security line if I am departing on EY in F (although I will only have a printed boarding pass since I would be checking in online) Sorry for all the questions but I just want to be as informed as possible! Just OLCI for your EY flight and use transit security - no need to go landside.

Your EK flight would need to be two hours or more l;ate to be an issue.

If you've already checked in online, just follow the signs for transit passengers. No need for immigration and customs.

When on a two reservation itinerary, there is no such thing as an adequate transit time. You are playing percentages (which is Ok. its done all the time)

You have 2.5 hours from arrival to departure which is adequate for an airport like MEL to complete all ground formalities

Whether you can connect to EY depends on 3 factors:
1) Whether EK arrives on schedule - out of your control
2) ground time to complete ground formalities - yes- about 1-1.5 hours
3) Any reserve "up your sleeve" time - I estimate you have about 1-1.5 hour reserve time in that 2.5 hours.

Hence you should still make EY flight even if EK flight is 1-1.5 hour late.

Yes, transit security should take no more than 5-10 minutes - ordinarily your EY flight would board from 9:30pm, but you'd have until 9:55pm to get to the gate, assuming they allow 15 minutes
