Flying Mel-Syd on JQ30, then Syd-Dps JQ36. Itinerary says leaving MEL International T2. Spoke to Jetstar this morning and was told will leave from Domestic Terminal. Either way will I have to collect my baggage in SYD or will it be checked through to DPS.
Will I also have to recheck in and go through Immigration in SYD. I am meeting up with somebody in SYD that is on the JQ36 and flying with them. I am not sure where to tell them where to meet me, at check in or at the gate the plane leaves from.

JQ30 should depart from the international terminal, as it's an international flight number, though I have never taken it myself and believe there are exceptions to the rule. Luckily for you, it's all the same terminal in MEL so if you end up at the wrong end it shouldn't take too long to get to the right counter.

I do agree that it is from the T2 (International).
I did PER-SYD-DPS (*class all the way) and had to re-check in at SYD. I did not have any checked luggage, so I could not tell you either way if JQ will interline the baggage the the whole way.

Forget calling Jetstar reservations if you have any questions about anything, you're guaranteed to get the wrong information. They constantly tell people to go to SYD intl terminal to catch JQ73 SYD/DRW/SGN which leaves from T2 domestic.

The staff are contractors & not even in Australia & have no idea what happens here.

Your baggage should be through checked all the way MEL to DPS & you should receive both boarding passes for the flights. You will also be cleared out of the country by Customs in MEL as your next flight JQ36 is also an international flight.

I would aim to arrive at MEL International Terminal 2 hours prior to departure & remember do not buy any duty free in MEL as it will be confiscated in SYD when you go through the transit security screening point. You may purchase duty free after you have done the security screening in SYD.

You will need to meet up with your friend somewhere airside eg at the boarding gate as you will remain airside so won't be able to meet them at checkin.

If you're concerned about getting seats together either call up Jetstar & have them pre-allocate you seats together on the SYD/DPS leg or alternatively when you checkin at MEL ask the checkin person if they can allocate you & your friend seats together on JQ36 so when they checkin at SYD it'll already be done.
