MEL - SYD - Boston - Ottawa - Melbourne - tips needed for maximising SC's -

Need to fly MEL - SYD early AM on Saturday 18th of March - two day weekend conference

then SYD to Boston on Monday the 20th - must get into Boston that afternoon/evening as have two day training course on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd

then have to depart Boston that Wednesday evening into Ottawa to arrive same night as have another training course starting 8am on the Thursday in Ottawa

Then either evening of Tuesday 28th or anytime Wednesday the 29th fly back to Melbourne

Just need to get 600 SC's or as close to it as possible - without spending the GDP of a small country! The QF legs (MEL - SYD, SYD - LAX and I'm guessing on the return JFK - LAX - MEL are reasonably straight forward, but don't know much about the AA stuff and how to maximise SC's, and it seems Boston to Ottawa on AA is an adventure as they don't fly direct (which surprised me). Basically aiming to do it in various shades of Y and hoping for points upgrades to J or PE on the home leg.

You can use the QF points (& SC) calculator. Don't forget to fill in your status; AA flights with QF flight numbers will earn more than the same flight will AA flight number (bt will probably cost more too).

Also, Qantas and AA recently announced some dismantling of their alliance arrangements. This may make the calculator wrong on certain AA segments (however, I think the arrangements only kick in on 1 May - so calculator should be OK)

It possibly could have been but a status run is more an A - B via lots of places with the aim of getting lots of SC's - this is more about getting to two conferences and two training courses within 11 days in three different countries and trying to get close to 600 SC's while I'm doing it - I wouldn't really call it a status run - frankly I wish it wasn't all so closely crammed together!

If you want to maximise SCs, fly your AA flights in F and connect if you can.

But remember now AA F only get you QF J now, so book in J as it's often cheaper and you'll get the same points

That's assuming that one has the budget to fly the TPAC legs in J of course

The fairly hassle free way to do this is a DCIR22 or DCIR26 Circle Pacific fare with a stop in Asia on your way to/from North America, ensuring that your flights in/out of Aus are QF numbers.

^ This comes to 23,634 miles so would be a DCIR26 (~$11k + taxes) and earns 640SC.

If you can get it under 22,000 that drops to ~$9.3k + taxes.. you can start by dropping the SYD-MEL legs off to save 880 miles, the remaining 750 you'd need to find somewhere else, or fly via Japan and be prepared to change airports from NRT to HND.

Anyway given how specific your requirements are I'd highly recommend talking to a travel agent or posting in the flight search assistance forum.
