I can see availability and booking on the Velocity site for a MEL-LAX - but not for the connection LAX-SLC on DL. Looks like I will need to call to make an award booking all the way to SLC and back. Will that incur a fee, and if so how much? Will the additional miles push the point cost of the redemtpion into the next tier - what will it be?
 
You cannot book reward flights that include Delta online, you will need to call the GCC to get a quote.

Yes, it the reward will likely need more points as it has two flights.
 
If you book early on Delta it is very reasonably priced to go to Salt Lake. Have you tried the Little America high rise or Grand America hotels? Lovely!
