Hi All,

Quick question, is it possible with QF to fly from MEL to CHC without using JQ?

Timing wise the QF website for the 18th of July only throws up the JQ flight which is abysmal in terms of timing.
JQ171 2335/0500+1

Whereas on the 19th of July QF have a flight from SYD to CHC 0715/1225

Question is, can I book with QF to include a domestic leg on the day before on the same ticket? or do I have to buy an extra flight?

Im happy to fly the day/night before up to SYD rather than take that JQ flight - it would destroy my body clock.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, do it as a multi-city, MEL-SYD-CHC and choose the first leg on the day before the second leg and you'll be fine.

EK have a flight departing mid-morning, so if/when they implement a codeshare a same day connection will be possible.

I have flown MEL-AKL on QF and AKL-CHC on NZ in the past, no big deal not earning on NZ (to VA) on the cheapie fare I bought (heresy I hear you say?). Certainly would not trust JQ on the MEL-CHC leg as there is (or certainly used to be) only one flight per day.

Still a hassle to go via SYD, maybe just fly NZ/VA

As a frequent MEL-CHC-MEL pax VA non stop is now my preferred choice.
Have done MEL-AKL on QF and AKL-CHC on NZ (and QF when QF had NZ domestic service). Transiting in AKL is lot better than transiting in SYD.

EK used to fly MEL-CHC-MEL but was changed to MEL-AKL-MEL. The EK departure times were good. [I do not book early morning flights]

FWIW, the CHC-MEL flight on JQ is a great option to get home after work on a Friday night. (especially if you are departing first from another south island town/city)
