MEL airport hotels

I concur with the other posters about the Mantra shuttle run by United Airport Parking. I've used it probably 50 times over the last 10 years. I've never had to wait for more than a few minutes. Just call when you have your bags. Most of the time there will be a bus in the vicinity.

They used to advertise is as the 3 minute bus but with changes to the roads it's probably more like 5 or 6 minutes. Obviously not as good as being able to walk to the terminal but you should have no concerns about it.

The Hyatt place at EssendonFields used to be a reasonable option with their complementary shuttle and often not too bad rates.

Sadly the shuttle did not survive COVID.

I paid $200 at HI with no IHG status...did yiu pay $100 or less?

For the night I need.
ParkRoyal $301
Mantra $108 (red hot room rate)
HI $223

Special at the ParkRoyal. Can get a business suite for $308 which would be a no brainer if going with that hotel.

That is certainly a great rate for Mantra...is it a regular thing or just a one-off?

Stayed at Hyatt Place two weeks ago and no issues with their shuttle bus service. Highly recommended, good size rooms and well appointed.

Great, last time I looked it was still suspended. Certainly like the hotel - as a Globalist and, now, Exlporist they have looked after me.

I recently had to stay overnight after a cancelled Qantas flight (one of many!) and they put me up at the Hyatt Essendon Fields. Quite a nice hotel and the the free shuttle seemed fairly efficient. Certainly a lot better than some of the awful places Jetstar have put me up in recently. Not sure of the price though.

Accor Plus red hot room deal for the Mantra makes it ridiculously attractive.
Red Hot Rooms are definitely the ones to book. I would even use the Mantra again, although my previous experiences with both the hotel and shuttle were extremely poor. I now use good old Best Western. They pick up very quickly and the restaurant is good. However I note they are also getting pricey now after a refurbishment program.
Your question was timely and the various opinions useful.

Did you stay at the Mantra? Did they pick up from the airport in a timely manner?

I’m booking overnight for December 5. Still “red hot rooms” rate with Accor, so just too good to pass up. Besides which I can use the Accor discount for dinner, or just eat in the QF J lounge before heading to hotel. 😆

Not yet. I'm still currently booked at the Parkroyal but intend to change. I'll be there the night before you!

Just checked in. Shuttle pick-up worked well. I called the number as I was exiting. Was told where to go and the bus was there within a couple of minutes. Suspect I got a little lucky. Less than 10 minutes to the hotel.

Room is a deluxe studio for just over $100. Two free drink bottles and a welcome bottle of red. So far so good here.20221204_185750.jpg20221204_185759.jpg20221204_185813.jpg20221204_185824.jpg20221204_185841.jpg

HIX last week. Thought I'd give it a try @ abt $200 rather than pay $300+ for ParkRoyal. Was OK.

8pm arrival; I walked from the terminal after international arrival; very enthusiastic and helpful check in ( I'm IHG plat). Basic room OK (all I wanted was to eat them go to bed).

Restaurant and bar packed ( the latter with a strong representation of bogans) but a quick meal OK.

Next morning shuttle was efficient, but dropped off Virgin pax outside International! As HLO, a schlepp to the new security pointy.

Summary. OK for a late arrival or early departure. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

I’ll be there tomorrow night in the same room class ($117). The room looks very good; thanks for posting.

I tried to book a room for March but rates have returned to normal. Love the “red hot rooms” rates!

I like the Mantra but haven’t stayed at the Parkroyal since becoming a Titanium member so keen to see what benefits or gifts are on offer there.

Just to close this out. Dinner the in the restaurant was pretty average. I ordered a burger and was told there are no chips as they'd run out. These things happen. At least they told me and was offered an alternative. From overhearing some conversations I don't think this was the case for all guests. It wasn't that busy and took an eternity to get an average $28 (down to $21 with Accor Plus) burger out.

I used my two free drink vouchers for any beer. The guy upsized them to pints.

Next morning shuttle back to the airport was a little less polished. Reception gives you a chit and you go to the shuttle pick-up area in the parking garage. Only problem was no one was there. Went back to reception who just said wait a little. Eventually a shuttle returned. The guy said we'd be going in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later we left. So saying that the shuttle departs on demand is a little misleading.

All up a decent stay. If the price is right, it's worth it.

To clarify, it's not a HIX, just a HI, otherwise breakfast would have been included.

I have stayed there many times over the decades, including back in the 90's when it was a Travelodge.

It's way too expensive for what it is these days.
