MCT at MLE checked-through baggage

Hello AFF,

I'm hoping that you might be able to provide me with a bit of advice. I'm looking at a flight itinerary of MEL-auh-MLE (EY F/J using AA) with the latter flight arriving at 14:55 and MLE-CMB (EK F using $) departing at 16:20.
It's a short 1:25hrs connection which I'm guessing is below the MCT and being two separate PNRs provides no protection. So, I guess my question really is, is this too short or is it workable?

Also, would it be possible to get baggage checked-through MEL-CMB? Obviously MEL-MLE isn't a problem but, with such a short connection at MLE, if it was doable, baggage check-through would be a huge advantage and possibly the only way to make it work. But will that work across two carriers?

I have to scrap the plan and look at other more expensive options if I don't take this option, but I don't want to risk a missed connection and an even bigger problem.

Thoughts please?

Thanks,
Beta4Me

I have. The incoming EY flight does have some degree of variability to it. A fair few times it's been late. Not hugely, but every minute hurts on a tight connection.
