Hi,

I'm currently QFF Gold and by later in the year I've calculated I'll be 200ish points short of Platinum even with a Flex Economy Return Airfare to Frankfurt. Any good tips on maximising my SC's on that trip? Maybe economy to HKK or BKK then Business to Frankfurt? I'm probably going to spend around $5K, but maybe more. What about Jetstar Starclass somewhere then onwards?

Thanks!

Ben

Welcome to AFF!

Which city are you based out of?

Do you have much free time to do SC runs in Australia, or free time to jetset around the EU when you get to Frankfurt?

Thanks for the Welcome. I'm based out of Melbourne. I won't have a lot of time in Australia or probably around Europe. A stopover in Asia or Middle East would be possible. I might even consider flying my family to my stopover location on points for when I return. Any 'bonus' SC's that are available would be helpful for this trip, as I have another 10 months to find extras.

Thanks,

Aha. I’m not up to scratch on the earning potentials towards Frankfurt sorry, but know other members should be able to help in that regard soon.

Only thing I can suggest is altering any domestic travel so you connect, instead of going direct, and maybe looking into flying J between MEL-CBR as the tickets for such travel are $468 for 40SC’s. Not a great rate, but not bad.

Alternatively, if you were up for visiting New Zealand, the LAN special is ~$700 for 160SC’s return in J SYD-AKL. As seen here.

I'm looking to get to Frankfurt later in the year as a side trip from Tokyo. I've only done some limited search for my plans, but there seems to be a couple of options available.

The first one would be starclass to tokyo (max ~$2500) and then a separate flight to europe, i saw a J fare with BA last night for about $3700.

Then JAL have a return business fare to europe via japan for about $5500. Trouble is that JAL might move out of the oneworld alliance some time soon. Well these are my options, but luckily your not limited to going to Japan.

What you can look at are mini round the world fares. There are a number of these available on multiple airlines, even across alliances. For an idea of what is available check out best flights:

UK and Europe - Cheap Flights - Phone Flights Results

The other thing about the mini RTW fares is that some variation allows going both direction via asia - so not really a RTW. One example is a lufthansa fare discussed in the following thread. Note this allows flying to asia on qantas and then to europe with lufthansa.

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...airfares/lufthansa-pseudo-rtw-fare-18778.html

I think you'd have to see a TA to book some of these fars, as they don't seem to be available online.

Anyway a few ideas to check out.

Edit: ohh and there is Finnair mixed class to europe. this involves Qantas Y to asia and finnair J to europe via helsinki. But I'm not sure of the prices.

If you route either via HKG or BKK then you could tack on a Royal Jordanian HKG-BKK (or vice versa) in Business, which would net you 60 SC's each way for around 300 AUD for a return trip. A one way trip on that route is not so cost effective at about the same price as a return, when last I checked. But, it could open up routing like:

MEL-SYD-BKK (tack on the Royal Jordanian outbound leg)-HKG -LHR-FRA
and then do the opposite on the return
FRA-LHR-HKG (Royal Jordanian inbound) -BKK-SYD-MEL
