Hi all,
Just finished a stay with Marriott Sukhumvit in Bangkok. was there for a conference (ostentatiously called an Executive Summit) for one of my vendors.
I have to say I was impressed.
Spotless room, and an unusual design with a huge sliding door to the marble bathroom. This gave the room a great feeling of space. Thann branded amenities, if it matters to you, and there were plenty of them - shaving kits, dental, hairties, shower caps, emery boards, sewing kit, shoe shine, hand wash gel, shampoo conditioner, soap, moisturiser and mouthwash. Seriously, if you are into nicking this stuff then bring another bag. I was happy enough just stealing the soap (haven't bought a cake for years).
The mini-bar is basic, but I never really hit that stuff, although this trip I went crazy and treated myself to a Pepsi-Max.
Service was excellent, as you would expect in Bangkok. The room was immaculate every day.
Safe in the room, iron, ironing board, robes and slippers if you like them - I'm nearly old enough to do a Hugh Hefner routine in hotels, but not quite yet.
Food was very good, both in the restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and for our conference breakouts. The breakfast buffet was expansive - no risk of not finding something to start your day. Lunch was again massive, with Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Indian and Western fare, with of course plenty of delicious Thai food. It's not fine dining but was of consistently high quality and very tasty.
The infinity (almost) pool and pool bar area is nice enough for a hotel with a pretty small footprint although it was usually overwhelmed with the dreaded smokers.
By and large this was one of the best city hotel stays I've had.
Marriott Sukhumvit is a bit out of town - which is fine for me as I've seen all the city centre has to offer day and night - so take this into account when deciding if you stay here. It is, however, a 2 minute walk from Thong Lo BTS station, which then lets you get to the city or MBK centre (cheap electronics) really easily. It is also one change at Phaya Thai interchange to the metro that can take you to or from the airport.
We paid $140 a night on our conference rate, but I found similar on Expedia for the same time as our visit.
Overall I'd give the hotel 4/5, with the food ranking 5/5 by hotel standards.
Some pics are below if you're interested.
Regards,
Peter

This is the shower and bath - yes I know, poor form - I'm half in the shot, thankfully fully clothed.

This is the bathroom with the door slid back. Toilet on right has a privacy door. Note the box full of toiletries and amenities. 2 bottles of water provided each day.

The room - so nice to have a slightly different layout for a change. Note my completely unnecessary purchase of bottled water on the bedside table.
