Marriott Rewards MegaBonus - for the vacation you've always dreamed of in North Rhyde

The latest MegaBonus offer from Marriott sounds like a great offer on the surface:

You should never give up on your dreams. So to help you make your travel dreams a reality, Marriott Rewards® is once again offering our popular MegaBonus promotion.

Here's all you have to do to participate and to get once step closer to the vacation you've always wanted:

Register by selecting the "Register" button or by calling 61-8298-5250 by 31 March 2011.

Stay at any of more than 3,300 participating hotels between 1 February 2011 and 30 April 2011.

Earn 1 free night for every 2nd paid stay, up to 2 FREE NIGHTS!

As you would expect, there are restrictions. The problem is that these restrictions are explained really badly. Some details are also not explained at all on the Marriott website. The following points may help clarify the offer for some people:

+ Your free night must be redeemed as part of a separate stay (so you cannot claim your 3rd night free directly after 2 subsequent nights). Your complimentary night must be at least 7 days after your paid stay and you have until 30 September 2011 to use it or it will be forfeited and become invalid.

+ Your free night must be used at a category 1-4 hotel. If you want to stay domestically this rules out EVERY Marriott hotel in Australia except Courtyard North Ryde, a fairly plain business hotel in Suburban Sydney that will fail to excite most leisure travelers.

So unless you are traveling overseas to a country like the US, which has a lot more 'entry level' Marriott hotels, or 'the vacation you've always dreamed of' is in North Ryde this offer will not really excite most Australians.

Although Marriott run some great hotels in Australia, they really lack any solid local grounding here. I don't even know why they bother promoting their rewards program in Australia as the program is basically an unmodified version of what they offer their US customers.
