Marriott at HKG airport

The Novotel BKK at the airport is a very nice hotel. The rooms are huge, service is good and facilities are all there. They provide a free shuttle back and forth which is easy to use but requires a bit of a walk to the end of the terminal if you are arriving at baggage carousel 22. The cost when I stayed was around the 6000 baht mark so not cheap. Depending on your length of transit and which time of day you arrive, maybe a city hotel is the way to go. The train link is now operational so only takes about 20-30 mins to commute and have a promotion till dec for only 15 baht if i remember right? A taxi onyl costs around 300-400 baht. I would recommend it but I can also recommend some city hotels just as good for same price..

Many thanks taswegian77. I have an early flight out next morning to HKG so I figured I might stay closeby. It's only the one night so might treat myself to the Novotel. Appreciate the advice. Cheers CM

The Marriott Sky City at HKG is a modern, well appointed hotel. While it would be possible to walk to it, through the vast car parks, then to the other side of the golf course, thankfully there is also a regular shuttle service between the terminals and the hotel.

While the Expo Train Station is just a stroll over the pedestrian bridge from the hotel, the management recognises that the airport line is not the best priced option for getting into/out of the City/Kowloon, so also runs a regular shuttle to the near by local train station, enabling you to bypass the relatively expensive airport line. Additionally there is also a direct (free) shuttle to Disneyland in the mornings and back in the late afternoon (or use the shuttle+train option, from/to the local station for shorter Disney stays).

The room that I stayed in was on a higher floor, and well appointed, with a view out over the water to the coast line. On the opposite side of the floor was the executive lounge with a view out over the golf course, car park, airport terminal and across to the tarmac. There is a great spread on offer in the executive lounge of an evening & also at breakfast, enabling you to skip the lush but more expensive restaurants in the hotel. Alternatively, the frequent shuttle bus to the local station, drops you off at a large shopping centre, which includes a food court as well as supermarket.

The rooms on the lower floors are less well appointed, and designed for tour groups heading to Disneyland, and represent the type of value that travellers from the mainland would be looking for.

I would recommend the hotel, even if one of the managers wasn’t a rellie. ;)

I've stayed at the Marriott Sky City HKG twice now and am staying again in a couple of weeks. Its pretty new and the rooms are good and beds excellent. Free shuttle to and from the airport make it convenient for an overnight and the price seems a little more competitive than the other airport hotel.

I've stayed at the Novotel BKK once. It's also pretty new, good rooms, good beds, no complaints!

Cheers

Timmi

I have stayed at Novotel Citigate several times (maybe 4 times) and Marriott HKG once. My Marriott stay was an award night and Mrs NM and I were upgraded to a very nice suite.

Both are modern and provide free bus transfers. Both are very nice for an overnight stay and I would not hesitate to use either again. I have no real preference for one over the other and would base a decision on best price at the time.
