Has there ever been any thought to airlines advising passengers not to bathe in perfume before getting on a plane. There is nothing worse than enduring a long flight with passengers spraying on perfume or aftershave even after a visit to the amenities !

Kicking off with a bang – look at you go Mansfield! ;)

I think I'd prefer a perfume bath over a stale sweat bath, or worse. But I suppose it can be too much.

Thank you mrsmart for your welcome! This is an amazing forum. Have written many complaint letters to Qantas with a small amount of success. My wife has a severe garlic allegy and asked for a meal without garlic on the Qantas flight to Heathrow. Came the reply "cannot guarantee this - suggest have fruit platter instead or bring your own peanut butter sandwich" . The bread had dried out a bit when we got to Heathrow.!! Can appreciate their problems with various dietary requirements - but other airlines seem to manage.

Welcome to AFF :) .

Two posts and two complaints (and 'many' more to Qantas); this might be interesting.

Keep it coming Mansfield we all need a new perspective on life.
Welcome to AFF club.
My thoughts are probably better to smell with aftershave then bad BO .......

You will want to fly with an airline that offers Jain meals. I don't think QF offers one - and probably unlikely to have much of a customer demand?

Thanks Rooflyer and marki,
I have been a member of the Qantas Club for some 20 years -don't know why at times- I guess Raymond Babbitt in Rainman was right "Qantas never crashes".
I was in a business in the International Airport that received Airline Meal Vouchers from passengers for late departures etc. The business was re-imbursed on Invoice by the Airlines involved. No prize for guessing the worst payer! The best payers were the most efficiently operated airlines.
It is just great to see how much knowledge and wisdom is on this site.

I prefer people to use scent after visiting the amenities myself. ;) /said in a jocular and jovial manner.

But smells can be over powering in confined spaces.

Pie Smell? :D

Interesting seeing this thread. There was an email at work this week advising people to consider others when using perfume and other sprays. It seems there are a lot of people out there with allergies.

And garlic I will never understand. It wreaks. Some people use it in their food everyday. Why? They stink. Whenever I come into contact with such a person I feel like passing out.

There you go. Good start to a Friday.

On the subject of garlic (why not? ;) ) I think I must have a de-sensitivity to it. Sure, I can taste it, but I've never been over-whelmed by it in such a way that others complain about, either in food, on breath or otherwise.

Funny true story ... we were in San Francisco and had dinner at the " Stinking Rose" restaurant. I had 40 clove chicken -cant remember what Ron had. The next morning I was shopping and the assistant serving me took a step back ever time I opened my mouth to speak. Took us a while to figure it out that we reeked of garlic !!! The restaurant is still going strong :D

One of our departments has been asked to tone down strong perfumes because one of their team gets migraines.

I wish they wouldn't. The spray on deodorisers and perfumes set off the toilet smoke alarms.

I was almost seated next to local PNG guy once on a flight to POM. He sat beside me and I honestly didn't know what struck me! His odours (all sorts, BO and backside mingled excellently with old tobacco smoke and burned hauswin smell and his mouth was bright blood red with buai) stole my breath away instantly and made my eyes water profusely. Just as my face was turning a blue/black colour and my eyes were almost sealed shut for ever, some big bloke came along and said to him...."hey buddy, you're in my seat"! I could of just about kissed that guy!

I'll take the perfume any day!
