Managing Qatar flight booked with Velocity Points

So we fly Business Class from Canberra with Qatar on Wednesday, booked with Velocity points.

The Qatar website doesn't recognise the Virgin booking reference.

Is this going to be a problem for online check-in? We'll be pretty pissed off if we don't get to sit together, and I wanted to check if I could choose seats in advance of check-in opening.

Nah, ignore me - I have found the Qatar booking reference.

Grrr, none of the side by side seats are available. but I've snapped 9b and 10a as the only two seats near each other.

Weirdly seat selection is free for Canberra to Doha, but $120 to choose seats from Doha to Dublin!

I've been just playing this "game" myself. Managed to get a seat allocation for my DOH-BCN leg through Qatar On line chat (Qatar Gold, VA Platinum) for free, after some hand holding from myself... but can't do the PER-DOH leg, that's a VA flight, go to VA site and they can't do because it's operated by Qatar!!

Who’s getting the rear facing one?
We always sit apart on flights and I love the rear facing window seats
I didn't realise one is rear facing. We can fight over it.

Do these seats connect at all, like does the partition come down so we can see each other?

I'll ask at the airport if paired seats are available.

No, you won’t be able to see each other.
As a couple QR and many other airlines often try to move us to a middle pairing so I’m always monitoring my booking to ensure my seats stick.
We both want window seats and I want the rear facing seats so we will often find ourselves nowhere near each other on the flight

Rear facing is mine, I prefer, just need to remember to hold onto to bits and bobs on take off. Same re sitting apart, interrupting my wife's movie catch up sessions is not good for domestic harmony!

We generally watch movies together, synchronising the start.

Does it often happen that seats get freed up? I was surprised to see Business Class so full. I expect many of those will be joining us in Melbourne.
