Hungry flyer throws tantrum - Local News - Cairns, QLD, Australia

A SYDNEY man has paid the price for an alcohol-fuelled tantrum during a Qantas flight to Cairns on Friday night.

David Tarasenko, 31, yelled at flight attendants, offended other passengers and ripped the magazine holders off nearby seats after airline crew asked him to move from his emergency exit seat because of fears he was intoxicated.

...

He was fined $800 for offensive and disorderly behaviour, $500 for damaging property and was ordered to pay Qantas restitution of $575.

He was later released and allowed to pilot the aircraft back to Sydney!

From what I read this chap had not consumed that much alcohol.

Based on the alcoholic units consumed in this case case virtually nobody on this forum would ever be allowed to fly again!

Mind you many would not be prone to even considering the titles on the magazine rack...

Having asked thousands of people about their alcohol intake I find that it is rare for anyone to overestimate it or even be close to the actual consumption level.

I can well believe that. I have kept tallies for periods (as part of recording progress for my personal fitness campaigns) and it is scarey how fast those units can add up if you don't keep an honest track...

For example, many under estimate the volume of grog poured into wine glasses...

Things are getting bad when the first time you login to AFF for the day you see a thread involving alcohol, and Cairns and click on that thread first:mrgreen:

Is it bad that I read the article and immediately thought "well, someone can't handle their booze.."?
:D

This seems a light outcome for this when other people have done similar and there have been calls for them to never be allowed to fly again or be kicked out of the QP for life...

What is it with Cairns lately? Are we going to be safe for Ozfest VI in May?

Defintely not. Straightman and I sampled a variety of venues for drinks and food over several lunches and evenings last week. It was very hard work!

I'm glad I don't have his job of picking the best options to recommend in the "official" Ozfest itinerary! ;)

I agree; I always double what most people tell me... and do the same with cigarettes!

Hmmm. When I go to the doctor and the subject of alcoholic drinks comes up I tell him I consume double the amount I usually consume weekly. He then advises me to halve my alcohol intake and I am right back where I started. ;)

Nice work.

My own strategy is to go drinking with my doc! I always order a clandestine double on my rounds for him so he gets squiffy extra fast. Defintely helps his confidence when meeting the fairer sex. He till hasn't worked out its my avuncular influence which improves his odds and gets him merry on his nights out.

PS We never shot no cats, honest officer, its them others what done it...hic
