Malaysian Airlines - Advice Needed!!

I am trying to amend a booking I have with Malaysian. I have flights booked from Bangkok to KL for me and my family, but actually am flying separately with Air Asia from Hanoi to Bangkok the same day. I am not quite sure why I missed it at the time but I discovered a few days ago that I could actually fly directly from Hanoi to KL, WITH Malaysian.

I thought life would be easy from here, merely an amendment to the Bangkok/KL leg and a cancellation of the Hanoi/Bangkok one. Sadly, my call to Expedia revealed that there are no amendments or cancellations/refunds allowed on the flights booked. I understand the issue is my own creation, but do fellow boarders have any recommendations or am I really pushing the proverbial up the hill? I have sent an email to Malaysian in KL and am resigned to a negative response. I have planned after that to visit their Sydney office in Spring Street and talk to a human being directly. I understand that may not satisfy me either, but I am in a fairly determined mood!

I like the airline and have had some good experiences with it, but this seems a little silly, given that people do have changes to plans and a little bit of flexibility goes a long way PR wise.

Any feedback appreciated, although the ones telling me I am stuffed won't be as well received!

I am not so sure you will be able to achieve what you want to achieve. Have you looked at the fare conditions of the Malaysia flight?

Generally if you cancel an Air Asia booking then you forfeit the airfare.

Many other airline tickets, including Malaysia Airlines, are not changeable. And even if you could change the ticket for a hefty change fee you may not be able to change the origin/destination.

And then add Expedia to the mix could make it even more difficult.

Personally I would bite my tongue and take both flights on the day booked.

Cheap fares are cheap for a reason, often due to inflexibility. If everyone was given flexibility no one would lose their fare value or buy dearer tickets, the airline expects some to do exactly that and thus subsidise the cheaper fares.

I don't believe you will have any luck whatsoever.

I wouldn't waste your time going into the MH office, they will refer you back to Expedia as they technically own the booking as the TA.

When are the flights? You could hope for a schedule change which, depending on the airline, is a valid reason for a no-penalty cancellation of the booking.

I think MH will push you back to your booking agent as it was made through them, not directly with MH. That said, I was once trying to cancel flights with a certain agency, who wanted to charge me $500 per person for a change, but the airline was able to change the booking for me for $400 in total for three people.

Ring their contact centre, I've found their phone staff are usually quite helpful.
