I have just flown to Yangon via KL. I have no complaints about the seating, the staff and a feeling of safety.I flew economy in row 9.
This was my third international flight with MAS.
This time the food served was the worst I have encountered on any airline.
12 hours later I suffered from a sore gut and nausea and diarrhoea .
I would rather pay more than risk getting ill again.
I have made a report to MAS.

Without any proof that the MH food was the cause of the food poisoning, they will not accept blame in this situation IMHO.

If it were food poisoning, the onset of symptoms can be very varied in time (talking ~4 hours to a number of days), so the cause could be from prior to the flight.

Sorry to be realistic, but a report will not achieve squat here.

I do realise that but the airline should be aware of any complaint. I know it was from the plane . I just had to vent my annoyance. I was staying in a modern apartment and cooking at home from scratch most nights. Twice I refused " snacks " on two flights which were " pies " heated in a cardboard box. The food has definitely changed on MAS.

Sorry, but you do not know it was from the plane, you merely suspect it.

Gastroenteritis can come from a number of places, not just contaminated food. By all means send a report, and it may have come from the plane, but you still don't KNOW it.

Just 3 posts in 6 years and none of them about anything good.
I look forward to reading something positive soon.

The worst case of food poisoning I've ever had was when I got back from Yangon (I picked up amoebic dysentery). As it happens I flew back to SIN on MH, but still convinced that it was something I ate at the hotel breakfast buffet or at the restaurant we went to. But never can be sure.

Buzzard
I just don't have time to spend my days being a serial blogger.
Many statements and questions are posted on this site .Mine was a statement in relation to a recent flight and I am sticking to it. It may help someone else make a choice.
I flew four international flights last year , one to Cambodia and three to Europe including to London on MAS . The food on all flights was acceptable.
However this time Sydney to Yangon return via KL on MAS the food was totally unacceptable in the economy cabin.

However apart from a guess you cannot be 100% sure if it were the MH food that made you sick.

Is not possible for suspicions to be accurate?

I used the old SYD T2 Qantas lounge on arrival and had 2 tuna baguettes. Within 30 minutes in the taxi on the way home I had a severe migraine/headache and was feeling violently ill. I don't eat out and I can assure you that it wasn't mums home cooking.

I had scromboid poisoning. No doubt and no doubt it was the tuna baguette. GP agreed with my suspicion.

Qf Lounge (sofitel?) might not be at fault either. The Scromboid occurs during handling and processing phase of the fish. Was your tuna from a can? Actually not a germ but histamine release from decaying fish which hangs around and causes an allergic like reaction.

But you are right it is one of those food poisoning cases where ingestion to illness is can be a few minutes.

However, as with all food poisoning, unless there is a cluster no one pays attention, so therefore unless people start reporting no one will find the cluster.

Interesting post. Thanks. I am assuming it was canned tuna.

I found a piece of plastic in my prawn on a flight from NRT to KUL in J. Kinda put me off my meal!
