Hi Everyone,
I just keep being impressed by Luxury Escapes.

We had bought one Luxury Escape at Five star hotel in Cannes for early next month, and it was an astounding deal - I was paying 134 Euros a night with a lot of extras thrown in (coughtails, trip to an island etc) where, as best I could gather, regular guests were paying 499 Euros a night. It was such a good deal that the hotel tried to get out of it by contacting me directly via email, telling me they were booked out. I then contacted Luxury Escapes, who instantly got the matter rectified.

Anyhow, due to our back surgeries some months back and not having recovered sufficiently, we had to cancel this year's trip to Europe. So I contacted Luxury Escapes to ask if I could get any sort of refund. I had to ask this for travel insurance purposes, even though the contract made it unambiguously clear that no refunds were payable.

Today, Luxury Escapes contacted me to advise that no refunds were applicable, but that as a one-off gesture of good will, I could have either a voucher equal to what I had paid, or a refund of 80% of the cash amount (they keep a 20% Admin fee).

I was amazed. Are there any other companies this considerate in Australia?
Regards,
Renato

P.S. I just remembered, as result of my back disaster, I couldn't go to our Luxury Escape in Bali back in April. The conditions didn't look all that promising about changing dates - it was subject to the hotel's discretion. I asked Luxury Escapes to seek the change, and the hotel agreed to change dates to later this year - without any penalty.

We've had 3 absolutely fantatic deals in Asia through Luxury Escapes. If I need a week of cpmpete relaxation in Asia somewhere, they're always my first choice. Always so many extras thrown in like massages and romantic dinners. The best ever was staying at 2 Raffles Hotels in Cambodia for 10 days with too many extras to name. Around $ 1,800 for 2 pp as I recall. I've had to change dates several times and they've been really helpful.

They are great but you do need to check on hotel reviews on TA. We are off to Bali on a great deal in November.

I am trying to figure out which, if any hotels still award points etc on stays booked through Luxury Escapes. Hyatt don't although they recognised my Diamond status for upgrade purposes previously.

That is a great outcome in both situations!

Yes indeed, thanks. I was particularly worried about the Bali trip back in April, because despite having had back issues in the past (nothing requiring surgery) I hadn't mentioned it as a pre-existing condition on travel insurance - and wasn't sure if a travel insurance claim would be accepted under those circumstances. So I was very lucky that the hotel was so accommodating.

Thanks for that information.
I'll keep an eye out for that Cambodia deal should it reoccur, as I've never been there.

Yes, I agree that one has to check the reviews - but I don't wholely trust Trip Advisor reviews. I always use the Bookings.com reviews instead - since I know that people have actually stayed there. In fact, the reason we're going to Fairmont rather than another Luxury Escape I was considering in Bali, were the reviews of the other place at Bookings.com - the place was described as something very good, but more a younger person's place with lots of late night music. Not really our scene.

Interesting issue, which I hadn't thought about.
Cheers,

Sure. I never trust the reviews of someone who has only posted 1 review. Bookings .com is really helpful too.

Thanks, but it goes beyond that. A friend of mine and his family were booked by their travel agent into the Moon Hotel in Singapore. He read some of the Trip Advisor reviews and all seemed good. They went there and immediately walked out of it, and had to find another place, as it was so awful - he described to me the litany of things wrong with it after he came back home.

I checked the Bookings.com reviews for that hotel, and those reviews pretty much accurately described it as the pits that it was.

One may speculate that the hotel or its agents engage in posting positive reviews - a lot of them.

In our Bangkok trip a few months back staying at Regency Hyatt Hua Hin, I asked if I could have some points and gave them my membership number. The points showed up.

LE are now awarding QFF points for bookings

They have been for a few months now. My BKK booking back in April was awarded points.

MrP tells me there was an excellent deal for the Maldives in the Australian. I didn’t bite.

This looks wonderful. Offer expires on 4 days. I need a birthday present for MrP. Hmmm.
