I have an 8 hour stopover in Singapore between flights and last nite booked the Ambassador Transit Hotel for a 6 hour block. Today they confirmed the booking but this is what they have said when I queried their request 'do not clear Immigration' and 'baggage check is after Immigration'.
'1. Upon flights arrival, please do not clear Immigration. Do not collect your luggage. Proceed straight to the Transit Hotel and stay (only hand carry is allowed here). 2. After your stay, proceed to Arrival Hall at Level One (at your arrival Terminal). 3. Clear Immigration and collect your luggage from the Lost and Found Counter (where luggage is stored overnight) which is located at the centre of the Belt Area. 4. Check-in for your next connecting flight'.
Have any other members left their luggage like this to stay at a transit hotel ? And has it been waiting for them at the Lost and Found counter ?
Tks ! Fern

I had similar experience, but I was staying in Singapore over night with boarding pass for the next flight (approx 30+ hours layover). I didn't check my luggage all the way to NRT as I was planning to do some shopping in SIN. I arrived in SIN at 06:00 and decided to enjoy the SQ lounge before making my way to the hotel to avoid sitting around before hotel got the room available. I spoke to the SQ staff in the lounge, they made the call to the Lost and Found Office (T3 Arrival Hall in the centre between the belts), and they confirmed that they would collect and keep my luggage in the office until I was ready to collect.

I collected my luggage at around 1pm and absolutely no problem at all. You will need to show them your passport, luggage tag/receipt.

Given your situation, are you able to check your bag all the way to your final destination? Further, you might like to ask Transit Hotel staff nicely to see if they can contact the Lost and Found Office to keep your bag for you. You will be in ultra-efficient Singapore, I am sure the staff there will do their best to help you.

I would recommend checking your bags the whole way through. Bring your change of clothes. Then atleast you don't have to worry about the bags. I did a 9hr stopover at SIN and was able to get boarding passes for both flights (PER-SIN-HYD on SQ) and tag the bags through.

Unfortunately cannot do this, flying Emirates from Vienna-SIN, then Jetstar SIN-CAIRNS

If you are concerned about your bag, you can always use Changi Airport's Baggage Service. It is a breeze to pass immigration in Changi, it won't take you long. Drop your bag off at the baggage service, go thru departure immigration again. It shouldn't take long for you to do them all. I will be surprised if you take more than 20 minutes to accomplish that.

Edit: As a bonus, you get to collect 4 Singapore Immigration stamps in your passport :p. 2 for quick in-out baggage store, another 2 for in-out JetStar check-in.

It's not an issue, it's done all the time for the purposes of the transit hotel.

We had similar concerns, but went and did exactly as they suggested and easily collected the bags the next day.

I have done this a number of times now. Arrive late at night on QF and depart the next day on CX. Stay in the Skyview Lounge and head off through immigration around 4:00-5:00am to and collect bags from left luggage and check-in for next flight.

How will OP do this without a JQ boarding pass?

Just a friendly reminder that JQ58 SIN/CNS makes a transit stop in DRW. Unlike all the other JQ flights ex DPS/SIN/MNL/SGN that despit a transit in DRW before flying on to BNE/MEL or SYD, require you to clear customs & immigration first before reboarding the flight which operates as a purely domestic flight with JQ58 you will remain airside in DRW.

Do not buy any duty free in SIN as it will be confiscated when you go through the inbound security screening point prior to going into the transit lounge. Once in the transit lounge you can purchase duty free there or on arrival in CNS where you will clear customs.

I had some friends who learned this lesson the hard way with a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue. :( :(

It WAS safe to leave luggage on Baggage Carousel at Singapore Airport

Thanks for all the comments to my thread in mid July asking if it was safe to leave my luggage on the baggage carousel at Singapore Airport while I spent six hours in the Transit Hotel there. I decided to go ahead and do what the Hotel had asked, and want to let other members know that everything went according to plan - my luggage was sitting in front of the Lost & Found Office in the luggage pick up area and it took only minutes to retrieve it. I would definitely recommend the Transit Hotel (you can purchase a six hour block for around A$60) for anyone like me who has an 8 hour stopover in between flights. I got four hours of GOOD sleep. The room was a full size Hotel room with bathroom and there was very little noise from aircraft taking off and landing. The staff will give you a wake up call if requested.

Good for you to come back and confirm that this worked well.

(p.s. I have merged the threads)

Does it work the same way if not checking in for a further flight? ie I'm flying MEL-SIN arriving at 2100, Mr k_sheep is arriving 0800 the next morning. If I just hang out at the airport or transit hotel, will I be able to get my checked bags in the morning?

I am sure it would work, as after I left Lost and Found with my luggage I walked through Immigration and was into the general check-in/arrivals area. You would do the same then leave the Airport for downtown Singapore.

Should work properly. But there is always the risk that your bag could go missing (be it someone else walks off with it from the belt or just lost in lost+found). But Singapore is pretty good with things like this and I wouldn't expect any problems.

Have you considered a landside hotel as an option?

I had indeed, but we're doing this trip on a fairly tight budget, and I'm fairly adept at falling asleep anytime, any place :) So pulling up a piece of carpet at T1 seems worthwhile to save the ~$50. Also means I don't have to be wandering around an unfamilar city at night time by myself.

The lost and found counter has no idea of your forward plans. Collect your luggage and when heading out through immigration keep going. ;)
