Hi all

I hope someone has the answer.

We are flying to UK and ireland in July, with separate tickets/booking refs for the outward and return leg. The first leg is SYD/LHR on QF. The second leg which begins a week later is also spread over a week. The first flight is LHR-DUB on BMI. A week later, we fly DUB-LHR -FRA on BMI/LH and then have a 9 hour layover until QF flight to SIN.

My questions are:

1. Will we need to comply with the BMI restrictions on baggage or be able to use the QF allowances for QP membership/Silver FF.
2. The day we fly from DUB to SIN with layovers and flight changes and 3 separate airlines but one ticket, can we through check our bags?

Thanks in advance. much appreciated.

BMI and Qantas have no affiliation, and thus your QF status and luggage allowance mean absolutely nothing to BMI and you will of course have to abide by BMI's luggage rules or pay accordingly.

Similarly, unless your flights are booked on a single booking, it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to interline (check through) your bags to your final destination. It's hard enough to convince QF to do it for fellow OneWorld airlines, I don't see them (or LH/BMI) doing it for you for a rival alliance member. You can always ask nicely at the airport, but I wouldn't be expecting it to happen.

Agree that the luggage allowance of BMI will apply.

Not sure that you'll have to collect your bags though on the way home. I think 3 full-service airlines will interline your bags for you. Recently flew LJU-FRA-SIN-USM on Adria airlines (Star Alliance), Qantas (OneWorld) and Bangkok Airlines (other) and my bags were checked all the way through, and made it.
