I just called QF to request a Low Sodium Meal for my partner and I was shocked to find they do not offer one. I would have thought that a diet Low in Sodium would be a reasonably common request for an Airline.

We have connecting flights with CX and organising a Low Sodium Meal was no problems with them at all.

Anyone else come across this?

Domestic or International?

Qantas changed their special meal options a while ago to reduce choice. Perhaps someone has a link to that announcement and can give further details.

Would a diabetic meal be a suitable replacement - considering it is low salt: "Diabetic: High in complex carbohydrate and dietary fibre; low in fat; no added sugar; low salt."

It is international J. interestingly, the QF woman specifically stated the diabetic meal may not suit.

I order a gluten free meal and I reckon it is the same as the low fat & lactose free meal. Always boiled something-or-other (95% of the time chicken) with steamed vegies and soy milk.

They still offer me a bread bun (mmm lots of gluten in that !!) when they come back to serve the real meals !!

This may be an alternative ?

Cheers
Mark

PS - As a gripe I HATE getting my special meal first and finishing it before my partner has his served !

I used to have a Low Fat Low Sodium special meal in my FF profile but at some stage, it has disappeared from my profile. I had it in there from 1989, as I wanted to remain as healthy as possible (particularly seeing the quality of some of the standard meals back then). At least the meals appear to be better these days.

Hope you two have a great trip v8Stateman. Give her my regards.

Kidneys. Over active immune system.
Interesting. My immune system is over active and I have been on immune suppresants for many years now and have never been told to reduce the sodium intake. I guess we are not all the same and there must be other conditions that could possibly affect different parts of the body.
