I'm transiting through BKK in April, arriving with Jet*, then on to Europe with AY in J. It looks as though AY J pax have access to the Louis Tavern lounge - does anyone have any comments about this lounge? I wondered if my QC Silver status and being in J with AY would let me access the QF J lounge....any advice welcome.

QC membership will not entitle you to Qantas Club lounge access when flying AY. However, as AY is a OneWorld airline and you are travelling in J, you can use any OneWorld Business Class lounge that is open and able to get to within the airport. So if the Qantas Club is open at the time you wish to visit, and providing you have access to that part of the terminal (I have no idea where AY departs from related to the QC location), then you are entitled to access.

I was there last weekend:

Louis' Tavern is open 24 hours.

QF J lounge is open 1pm to Midnight.

QF F lounge is open 2:30pm to 5:30pm and 8pm to Midnight.

At least one of the two CX lounges (in G & D) concourses are open at any one time between 5:30am and from 7:30pm up to 12:30am depending on the day of the week.

Really? I thought that Thai, being *A, wouldn't permit access to OW pax

Not often you get *A lounge access with OneWorld but it does happen:

Thai Royal Orchid*

Location details: Departures Level, Level 3,

* At peak periods, access to certain lounges may be restricted due to capacity constraints. Access is available on the day of departure when the next onward flight is with a oneworld member airline. Access may not apply at a limited number of third party lounges.

There is quite a range of lounges to choose from if you dont mind the walk, Oneworld have a lounge finder online!

You could always access the Thai lounge which will be open.

Is that because of the agreement with RJ? What is it like, What is the best option. I was thinking QF F lounge, but it will be closed when I am there. I am leaving on CX702 in J at 18:40

I have never been to the new BKK airport but with a list of oneworld lounges like that, the possibility of a One World Pub crawl coupled with a CX status run is getting harder and harder to pass up!

Now if they only had a golf course between the runways like Don Muang :)

Very plain lounge. Looks like a fish bowl when you walk past it. Still if you only looking for a place to relax in peace and quiet with some food and drink then it is not too bad.

You attention to detail is impeccable. I have trouble remembering the location of the lounge let alone opening times and the features of each lounge.

That is very interesting. I remember using one of the Thai lounges (courtesy of the AY tag flights) when Suvarnabhumi first opened and the QF/BA lounge was not ready.

Sadly not, SWMBO has eaten the travel budget for that month with Ozfest, and I will getting to know NAN pretty well in the 2nd half of the year.

BKK is one of those places that I find hard to visit without SWMBO, they get suspicious of your motives, having said that a XMAS shopping trip has not yet been ruled out :)

Suspicious? Strange misconception. Nothing happens in Thailand. ;) Some of us go 3-4 times a year to play golf. :p

Nothing they couldn't be suspicious of in any other city. Strange concept that. Must be a gender issue?

Some great golf courses in coughet. Speaking of golf has any one been to mission hills in China? Heading there in Jan '11

Not too keen on coughet as the place is not that special and too expensive.

Have only played golf around the Pattaya-Sattahip-Rayong area. One of these days I will head off to Hua Hin to play golf. Apparently it is a nice(ish) area and does not have that many distractions.

I would love to go but I can't find a decent priced golf tour organiser. Must speak to samh004's dad again as I think he had some good suggestions.

Twin/double share is on the biggest problems with these type of tours. I travel alone and don't want to share with a stranger and I hate paying single supplements.

I shall do more research on Mission Hills and do it on my own one day. But first off I need to start planning the big golf trip to England, Scotland and Wales. :D

My dad doesn’t like Mission Hills, it’s very commercial in that there’s more than 18 holes setting off from Mission Hills and he finds it much too busy to be any fun.

He much prefers Kau Sai Chau, as do I, in Hong Kong, near Sai Kung. It’s a brilliant public golf course.

But if you want some suggestions John I can put you in touch with him easily. I’m not sure when he’s back in Australia though, I only ever find out a day before he arrives ;)

Thanks Sam. No rush as Thailand still has a lot to offer me in terms of golf and my next priority will be a Oneworld award with golf in UK and possibly the USA....
