So I have to travel to Thailand 6 times in the next year, is priority pass worth it to get access to the CIP lounges given I won't always be travelling J, or can anyone buy access to these lounges anyway, albeit at a higher price?

For the first trip I will be flying with Thai, I have no status with any airline and am travelling on best available fares. I plan to see if I can purchase a J upgrade at check-in but that may not always be an option. My current fare does not accrue any points owing to the fact it's a bottom bucket special.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

PP uses "Louis Tavern" branded at BKK.

Bangkok Airport Lounges | VIP Access | Priority Pass

These operate 24 hours and casual access can be had by payment in THB. It's seems to be around $40-$45 per visit.

There are a few PP lounges in BKK, and honestly they are better than QF/BA/CX/JL lounges. Biggest upside is lay down seats and bottled water. I go straight for PP these days without bothering with other lounges. Never been to the thai lounge though.

I don't mind the QF F/J lounges. Before they opened Qantas put PAX into the G Louis' Taverns.

In any case the OP needs a paid lounge since no other access due to COS nor Status, so one of the "Louis' Tavern"'s it is.

I seen two posts this week that mention trying to pay for a J upgrade at checkin. Do they sell off unused ones cheaply?

Thai advertise this is a service they offer although it's not guaranteed even if there is space in the J cabin, also comes down to catering and I imagine 'commercial reasons'. Nevertheless it never hurts to try and it does represent a 30% discount on a confirmed J fare if you are able to pay for one. Some airlines allow it (Thai & Malaysian ) while others choose to maintain the integrity of their J product being on a full fare basis only. Personally I see the sense in getting a bit more cash from a pax that would otherwise be occupying a seat on the plane anyway, just as long as it's still elusive enough that you could never count on getting it.

It might also be a marketing plan, to spoil the unsuspecting upgraded pax to such an extent that they could never again fly economy and will fork out the extra for a confirmed J spot next time.

Oh wow! Thanks everyone. It seems I've got plenty of options after all. I really like the fact TG are allowing you to pay for the fancy extra's as an ad-on service and offer standby upgrades.

In 2009 I stayed at the Pullman King Power and was given complimentary passes to the King Power lounge at the airport which I used. I found the lounge to be accepatable.

You should check with your hotel if they offer complimentary passes to one of the lounges.

Hi there,

I have also been performing numerous Bangkok/Singapore trips of late.

For lounge access at both these (and the Aussie airport) airports (when flying economy), I have taken up these offerings:

1. I purchased the US Airways Club membership. It allows Lounge Access to any Star Alliance Lounge if flying on a valid economy Star Alliance ticket. I saw the offer on this thread, http://www.australianfrequentflyer....star-alliance-lounge-access-259usd-29285.html but it may not be the same price now. For frequent trips though, it has proven really good value. I have road-tested it at MEL (Krislounge), BKK (Thai Orchid) and SIN (Star Alliance Lounge). All lounges granted admission OK, but best to take documentation, just in case the lounge staff are not aware of this arrangement.
2. If Flying Qantas/JetStar, you obviously have the Qantas Club. If no Qantas Club Membership, then you can buy the JetStar Business Max tickets on the MEL-BKK JQ flights.

The only other carrier from Oz to BKK is the EK flight from SYD, but I've never really liked the arrival time of this flight into BKK; so I haven't looked at lounge options for EK.

Funny thing about the BKK TG Thai Orchid lounge.....they did not serve wine. Beer, spirits yes, but no wine. I'm unsure if this was a temporary policy, or if it has always been like that.
