Hey all,

Pretty sure I know the answer to this one but I'm flying Thai Air Economy to BKK then an Eitihad biz class flight about 76 hours later onwards to Abu Dhabi.

Is there any lounge I (+1 guest) can blag my way into at Mel? I'm guessing that NZ will not let me in (Velocity WP) for a partner of theirs but not Virgin. I was even thinking of buying a MEL-LST flight then not boarding it to get in the domestic lounge - but I'm guessing that might hold up the flight, which is a dick move.

Open to ideas as I hate that extended international airport wait....

You can pay for single pass entry to the MEL NZ lounge (which is the lounge TG uses anyway) - I think its $65 which would be the same as buying a throwaway domestic ticket without the headaches.

Well it's about $30 more (2 people) but yea not a lot of cash vs the hassle. Paying $65 just seems like such a coughpy deal! (I know, totally illogical) :p

Honestly for $65 I'd go to Cafe Vue and have a nice snack and a glass of something nice instead - the NZ lounge isnt anything special.

Yea I hear you, was thinking that. Just nice to have a quiet corner with power points and a bar close to the gate. I might throw myself on the mercy of the Lounge Angels for an hour before they close then move on.

Cafe Vue isn't bad, but the service is pretty sub-par (or at least, it was last time I was there). Take a look at Bar Pulpo -- it's run by the good kids from MoVida, so the wine list should be pretty good! :)

Agree with others that the NZ lounge isn't worth paying to get in to.

Oohh will do, looks good :)

Or, just use the domestic VA lounge (as Plat you can go in and just swipe your card on the remote reader, and take your guest with you) and nobody will be any the wiser....not that I'm suggesting that I have done this....but....
