I recently flew in J SYD-BNE-DPS and in BNE I thought I'd try getting into the Air NZ lounge knowing that it's not allowed... or so I thought. At reception the agent looked at my boarding pass and said, “Off to Denpasar, gold" scanned it, wrote something down and let me in. While I was there they were actively checking on the flight status for Honiara, Port Moresby and Denpasar and called all three flights. Several people left the lounge after each call.

Am I missing something or has the Virgin/Air NZ lounge access policy changed? The Virgin and Velocity websites still say that you don't get access for short-haul international except trans-tasman even for Business Class. It would be great if it has as I get up to POM a couple of times a year and have a few more trips to DPS over the next couple of months.

Anyone had similar experiences recently?

I flew BNE-DPS last month. I tried the Air NZ lounge as a Virgin platinum - expecting to get turned away and did get turned away. Although the lounge dragon did check to make sure I wasn't a business class passenger who do get access. Which corresponds to what was on Virgin's website at the time. On the way back I did get access to the contract lounge Virgin use in DPS.

Strange, on my flight to DPS all the J pax were given entry passes to the Koru Lounge From Syd.
