Lost Baggage - compensation entitlements?

Hi all. Today I flew on a direct domestic flight (3 hours) Cairns to Sydney with Jetstar and unfortunately my 1 piece of checked baggage did not arrive on the carousel and is now lost. I did not take out travel insurance for this trip (not ideal I know). I immediately contacted Jetstar and they have started the procedures to locate the bag – although 3 hours later they still cant say even whether the bag left its origin point.
1. I was wondering whether anyone knew
A) what I can claim while the bag is 'delayed' while I wait for them to attempt to locate it – e.g toiletries vs business attire as obviously I have nothing on me at this point and
B) what these claims would typically be capped at. I couldn't find any clear directions online but on the phone the customer service representative vaguely said I could make a claim after 8 hours?

Yes some progress has been made thankfully - 24 hours later they have discovered the baggage (somewhere in Sydney airport) so have said they will send it to my address, hopefully it will arrive at some point (now outside the 4 hours that it was supposed to arrive by).

Once it arrives I will try and find out what I can claim: the biggest expense would be $100 bucks for contact lenses (so I could see things today haha) - no idea whether they will agree to that though. Will let you know how it goes!
