I’ve booked a QF award on Fiji Air next April which arrives LAX at 12:55 then a seperate AA award, LAX to DFW at 5:30 pm (AA First) then DFW to SJO (Business) the next morning at 10:30, obviously I’ll need overnight accommodation in DFW.

Just had advice of a schedule change and now flies at 12:59 am the next morning. Obviously not keen on the short overnight flight!

At the time of booking I did have the option of 4:30pm or 5:30pm and reading a few horror transit stories thought 5:30 was safer but now seeking advice from the experts here from people who have transited International to domestic at LAX to see if it’s worth me ringing and getting on the earlier flight. My understanding is that I won’t get lounge access in this scenario so if it’s feasible to get the earlier flight it does seem preferable.

Under normal conditions 3.5 hours would seem ample but seeking recently experience to better confirm!

I'm guessing you're on FJ810. It has a pretty ordinary On Time Performance. Current stats have it as on time less than 50% of the time. 25% of the time it's classified as "Very Late" or "Excessively Late". As a result, I'd say there's a 75% chance you'd be fine.

So for me it depends on whether you have an acceptable Plan B.

Yes FJ810. Looks like maybe the long wait in LAX and the overnight flight may be my best option.
