Where would you recommend to stay in London for one night stop over? I was thinking Novotel Paddington, Mercure Paddington or Mercure Hyde Park for easy access to and from LHR however the day we arrive Heathrow Express doesn't operate.

Arrival 1pm Sunday
Departure 6pm Monday.
I have Accor Platinum if that makes any difference.

Thanks

In cases like this, I always stay at an airport hotel. Check-in, go out and do stuff via transport. Next morning check out & leave gear at the hotel, go out again, return, collect gear from hotel and catch plane.

Less faffing around with bags on trains and then to hotel from trains, and much more flexibility the second day - go straight from your last visiting place back to the airport (hotel).

the Sofitel at T5 can be expensive, but it is a good Sofitel. If you decide to stay at an airport hotel, however, I'd go for the easiest one (any brand) to get to from the terminal you are using. Heathrow is bad enough without un-necessary travelling between terminals.

I would prefer to be in the city for that one night, we're planning to leave large luggage at airport storage and only bring carry on with us.

The Elizabeth line goes from Heathrow to Paddington so that may be an option if the HEX isn't working.

Yes, no longer constrained to HEX if you want faster transfer into town. As well as Paddington, look around Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road (Soho), Farringdon and Liverpool St.

So you’re looking at basically 24 hrs (give or take) in central London. Definitely wouldn’t stay at the airport for that length of time!

What about staying in the location you prefer to stay in (if you have a preferred location) and work out the transport second, whether it be HEX, Elizabeth Line, Taxi/Uber or even Piccadilly Line. (If for example wanting to spend time close to a Piccadilly line station, you might lose more time getting between your hotel in Paddington and where you want to visit than if you’d just stayed nearby and taken the tube to get there from the airport initially).

Yes, Piccadilly Line shouldn’t be overlooked (I’d do that before Taxi/Uber). I actually used it a few weeks ago to get to Vauxhall. HEX and EL were not useful options but we had plenty of time and at for a couple of £ ea, good value.

Note that while the Tube is getting better not all stations are luggage friendly - especially if changing to other lines. Look for “Step free access”.

Being able to tap on/off with a CC/DC also makes Tube and EL readily accessible for a short (or long) visit.

I don't have preferred location, ideally somewhere it's easy to walk to attractions and then jump on tube to LHR.

Someone in another TR mention the Novotel at Tower Bridge - I've stayed at the Double Tree around the corner from there and it's very close to the Tower Bridge station and only a couple of stops to get to Whitechapel to get on the Elizabeth Line

Your options in your 1st post are still a good starting point. EL to Paddington. Check in to hotel then from there you can get the tube to pretty much anywhere (plenty of tube lines run through Paddington). Maybe plan a circle route each day. Tube to one station walk between sites and Tube back from somewhere else. Maybe plan to have dinner in town Sun. Early start Monday, spot of lunch somewhere and back to hotel (who will store luggage) and off to LHR.
