I am holding bookings at both Olissipo Lapa Palace and Pousada de Lisboa on a Virtuoso rate for September. For those interested, the Virtuoso benefits are as follows:

Olissipo Lapa Palace
  • Room upgrade
  • Daily buffet breakfast for 2
  • US$100 spa credit
  • Free parking
  • Round trip airport transfer (if booking 5+ nights)
  • Half bottle of Porto wine + American cookies
  • Early and late check-out
  • Wifi
Pousada de Lisboa
  • Room upgrade
  • Daily buffet breakfast for 2
  • Complimentary 3-course lunch or dinner for 2 people, including 2 beverages (1 non-alcoholic and 1 glass of wine per person)
  • Early and late check-out
  • VIP amenity
  • Wifi
Does anyone have experience with either or both of those hotels? Would be keen to hear feedback!

Posada is more expensive (about an extra EUR120) but it is right in the middle of the old centre. Olissipo is on a hilltop near the city with a great view and nice pools/gardens apparently.

Not with the hotels themselves, but I have with Lisbon. You will regret the location of the Ollissippo unless you want to repeatedly visit the puppetry museum. Even the Posada is probably better described as being on the bottom of where you want to be, not really the middle. But it is a much better location if this is your choice. It's always a climb to Barrio from everywhere :-/

You could also look at the hotels around Restaudores which gives you elevator access to Barrio Alto, the areas around Placa Figueira and Baixa as well. Figueira is my favourite location in Lisbon and has brilliant transport links.

Again, no experience with those two hotels- we stayed in the Alfama area. We are keen walkers and enjoyed where we stayed. Looking on Google maps and considering all the public transport I saw, I would be comfortable with staying at either of the hotels you have listed

Recommend looking at new-ish Corpo Santo Historical, below Barrio Alto and adjacent to Praca do Comercio.

Loved the area immed downriver from the hotel - lots of small bars, restaurants etc, yet we weren’t more than 5 mins the other direction from the tourist walks and shopping near the Baia-Chiado metro. Hv a look for By the Wine wine bar, partic look at the ceiling...

Hotel is a rebuild - all the insides are new with the old facade retained. A lovely walkabout with hotel concierge at 4 pm daily, a free ice cream daily from the gelateria out front, and a tasting event in the lobby daily (white port one eve, pancakes another), and staff who really really tried.

A great intro to Lisbon. Check it out..

Again, no experience with the two in particular, but when I was in Portugal, i was disappointed in the Pousada chain. Meant to be up-market, but seem to trade on the buildings, not the experience.

I spent a week at the Sheraton a couple of years back and can recommend it. The rooms were very modern and it looked like the whole place had recent undergone a total refurb.

It has a metro station within about 50 metres which is very handy for access to the airport and old town. It's also a short walk to the main park with all the monuments (can't remember the name). Edit: Eduardo VII Park.

Side note: the Lisbon bike tour is an excellent way to get your bearings. It's a half day tour.

I don't know anything about the hotel other than the location. We did a lot of walking when in Lisbon and felt there wasn't any one locaton that stood out above others. We were over at Alfama & that was great but we were still travelling to see things

It's near the Sheraton (see above). That means it is great for town and Barrio Alto but the water is not as close. Is also near some great seafood restaurants. But theres nothing wrong with the location and its well placed for public transport

I can confirm that Olissipo Lapa Palace is a fantastic hotel, would highly recommend it!

Thanks for responses. Have booked the FS via a Virtuoso agent - benefits detailed below. The rate was exactly the same as what I could book going direct via the FS website including benefiting from their stay 4 pay 3 deal.... but excluding all the Virtuoso benefits. We've booked two rooms, therefore the benefits are doubled :)

As you booked via an agent who is a Virtuoso, guests will receive the following benefits:
- Complimentary American Buffet Breakfast daily in our Restaurant Varanda
- A welcome amenity with a personalized note from the General Manager upon arrival
- Room upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability
- Spa credit of USD 100 once during stay(not applicable to products and finishing touches).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
