Long time listener, (very) irregular poster 😇

It's taken a while, but I've finally booked my first QF oneworld Classic Flight Reward (J), departing in a couple of weeks:
AKL-DOH(-ADL)-DUB (QR) / LHR-MAD-ZRH (IB) / CPH-HEL-ICN (AY) / HND-SIN (JL) -KUL (MH) -AKL (MH)

To make it work, I've got SYD-AKL (QF/J) ahead of it, and then DUB-LHR (BA/J) after the first segments. Phoned QF to link the three itineraries, with the hope that it will allow me just to remain airside in AKL (& DUB) to avoid pre-departure brain tickle, and for the bags to go all the way SYD-LHR. That was fine, but the agent advised that because it is different airlines, I will need to check in again at AKL (& DUB).

My past (outdated) experience is that the through check-in would be fine with it all being oneworld airlines, but I guess it will be down to the team at SYD. Worst case scenario, if I get there when check-in opens and they can't do it, I can just step outside and do the COVID test and still have a decent amount of time in the FLounge.

Having been a while since I've done this, has anyone had any recent experiences?

For baggage through check from PNR 1 to PNR 2, the key is whether your QF SYD-AKL flight was paid with cash or points?

If paid with cash, you should be okay - see here:

Note the ^ for QF to/from oneworld on separate PNRs: "Exemptions apply for customers travelling on a oneworld separate PNRs when using a combination of award travel and revenue travel."

Some agents will be unaware of this so I'd highly recommend printing the page to show at check-in, just in case.

You will probably need to pick the bags up at DUB and re-check for LHR.

SYD-AKL is a cash booking, so looks like the exemption will apply - I'll definitely print that page out for reference. I'll assume then that I'll need to check-in again at DUB, but it won't hurt to ask.

Phoned QF to link the three itineraries
No, they do not link itineraries into one. All they do is (maybe) add notes to say you have other relevant bookings. If they did link everything you would only have one PNR.
through check-in would be fine with it all being oneworld airlines
not necessarily
Note the ^ for QF to/from oneworld on separate PNRs
Also note below the ^ that it is a QF concession, and may or may not be suppported by other OW airlines. Sometimes not even supported by QF
looks like the exemption will apply
As above
