Booked on a domestic flight tomorrow, which was upgraded to Business (U) class using points.

As I generally do, I've been monitoring the seat map from T-80 and have found that it has not opened up any additional seats for selection. I can select only the last row of Business, even at T-24 timings. Also checked the online check in which does not allow selection of any seat further up. EF shows mostly all seats in the cabin as available.

Has anyone encountered this before? Previous experiences have always shown the full selection of seats opened up at T-24, even as an NB member. I assume it has something to do with the upgrade.

I noticed this today - we have a flight on Sunday In economy with Miss FM and we wanted to sit together at the front. She is silver, so I couldn't select it for her. I went on today at T-80 and again during the day and interestingly the left hand side had opened up but quite a few rows of the right hand side were still blocked (this is a 717). I know they are empty because I can see that by going in under my FF number, rather than Miss FM's. Never seen that before at this point with a domestic flight....

Your QFF number in expert flyer?

Very good question, it was my partners in fact. Yes - switching to my FF number in EF shows the first 2 rows as all blocked. That rules out the possibility of the upgrade affecting the seat selection.

I still wonder why at this late stage, only the last row of J would be open to a SG. I see the avaibility as J1 C1 D0 I0 so my next best guess would be lots of WP/P1 in the J cabin with unselected seats?

I found the other week that seats were randomly opening and closing after t-80. Eg 4A would open but none of the rest of 4 even though they were empty. Then it would close and 5AB would open.

Could it be affected by numbers of higher status (eg: WP + ) on the flight but not assigned seats affecting the system - in effect "holding" those allocations for them? I dunno, I couldn't think of anyreason why this would happen. Seems unusual to me for sure. Actually come to think of it a friend noticed the same thing on a flight for tonight when doing T-80 and actually manually called QF and got assigned to a seat known to be empty. Maybe it's a QF meltdown,

or wait...

I'll say it before someone else does..

Simpler and Fairer :D

Your second image is a tad misleading, as it only shows what it can see as seats not selected yet. Being a 737, it could be that QF are holding off on those seats as they have a large majority of the cabin either not checked in yet or haven't selected a seat.

Remember - there is a difference between the EF seat map and the amount of seats left for sale, the two may not correspond at all.

With J1C1 all those seats are sold just not selected. Someone with your partners status can get those seats. You can't. Simple really.
