Whilst reading the thread about lounge use I came across a post about LTG and it made me ask myself a few questions. I suspect many here are asking themselves the same questions.

LTG, for me, is an insurance policy. I have gone as far as I can with QF and for a number of reasons credit my flights elsewhere. Indeed I no longer actively look to fly QF.

It has been reported that QF see a drop of in travel for those reaching LTG. My assumption is that QF see those reaching LTG are winding down their travel. I wonder though, is it because FF's switch to other programs keeping LTG as an insurance policy?

So what have you done upon reaching LTG, or for those not yet there what are your plans when you reach LTG?

Maintained WP with QF and well as an ~equivalent in another program ... firstly with AirNZ and now with VA ...

None of the poll options match that ... can you add it?

I have only recently reached LTG. My travel is mostly domestic and QF Link the only carrier at my local regional airport, I didn't think I had a lot of options.
If I am wrong and there are lucrative options - I would love to be told what they are (or where to start looking for myself )

I have said it before and will say it here again, I do not think there is a one size fits all approach to FF programs. there are just too many variables. For some, if not many, QFF is the best alternative out there. It certainly was for me when the mASA existed.

Last year I spent 750 hours in the air, and that made price, lounges, op ups, and upgrade opportunities important for me. The majority of that time was spent on the MEL-LHR-MEL route, so it opened up non QFF opportunities and I found the ex EU fare. Burning points was much less important. Given my routings and the vastly superior BAEC product (for the amount of travel I was doing) it would be silly for me to credit elsewhere.

If I was traveling to the US regularly I would almost certainly be looking at a US program, although I believe the popular choice has suffered some enhancements.

My domestic travel is predominantly done in J using BA redemptions on QF at ridiculously cheap levels for short haul. I wouldn't know where to start looking for my FF program if my travel was mainly domestic.

Still try to maintain QF Platinum. Lifetime Gold is a fallback option. No other frequent flyer program suits my needs.

I've had LTG for nearly 3 years I think. So far I have still credited to QF up to WP level each year, because LTG is still only SG and doesn't allow the same seat allocation as WP or get me into the F lounges. But so far it has been convenient to credit to QF for my flying plans. I don't think I would go out of my way to earn WP if it meant altering my plans for the sake of WP. For example, I don't generally choose to pay more to fly in J on QF metal rather than in J on a cheaper OW partner or EK on the same route, even if it means fewer SCs.

Still credit to QF (now over 24K LTSC) but also status elsewhere (eg: UA 1K)

My current plans should I reach LTG (some years away) would be to continue to credit to QF. I currently do a mixture of domestic travel and travel to London and the U.S. In the short term I expect to do probably 0-4 international trips a year (most likely 0-2) and a number of domestic flights.

I don't fly internationally enough to get better value out of a different program and as my travel is split between flying to the U.K. and the U.S. I'm better off sticking with QF.

If I do reach LTG unless QF has a change of heart and provides a further lifetime incentive to aim for (e.g. LTP) there's a strong chance I'll try to do my personal international travel on classic reward seats, upgrades from Y or flying J on whichever airline it suits me to fly (may/may not be QF). At the moment I'm hoarding points as I'm only using them for international upgrades on business trips.

were I to have the luxury of traveling as far and as often as others here, after LTG I might actually have considered a second (star Alliance?) program

..and every time I see the amazing photos of SQ F and TPR I do wonder if I am going to regret not going down the SQ route. (At the moment the ex EU BA fares are so compelling though and now I have sort of been snared into chasing LTG with BA.)

I do wonder though........

Please, can you use "SQ" instead of SG(for Singapore).. it gets confusing - specially in a QF thread :D

Having reached LTG 6 months ago and given my recent disagreement with QF (see here), and having prebooked flights with QF that will take me to QF Plat til Oct 31st 2019, I'm looking at other options...Ba, Sq, Aa are all possibilities atm....

As I have not yet got to LTG I don't know. I do appreciate there are better programs out there, but I am largely based in Australia right now, so the best program for me is Qantas, considering I do a lot of domestic flying. If I manage to get to LTG and then move overseas, that may be the reason I re-evaluate.

I think I'd have to move overseas to consider switching programs too. However in any case whilst I'd love to get BA Lifetime Gold (OWE) as a at best once or twice a year J flyer return to LHR that's not going to happen.

I'm still hoping that QF will add some lifetime benefits beyond LTG at some point to improve the program. They've recently given P1 some new annual benefits, so it's possible they could add some additional lifetime benefits to aim for. It may not be LTP, but there are other things they could offer.

I reached LTG many years ago and have always had an alternative program to QFF.

Everyone one should have a membership of a competitor to QF, so you have a little more 'freedom' in booking the alternative to QF. Domestically its obviously VA/Velocity, and for overseas travellers it will be a Star Alliance and/or Sky team airline. Most programs allow some form of transfer these days, so its rare to have stranded, expiring airline points.

When I eventually drop down to LTG from annual Plat, I don't expect my flying with QF will change much - except for TPACs en route to Canada, I hardly use Qantas and more (you could say my flying with them has been enhanced!)

I wont vote as there is no way I will ever reach LTG with QFF-I enhanced them many years ago.We still do some QF longhauls as mrsdrron will get her LTG next year. After that probably not.
But I have LTP with AA.They have out enhanced QFF in recent years so now rarely credit to them. For the last couple of years we have moved some award business to Star. However this is via SQ-Amex MR and flybuys-or via Life Miles which we pay for points.
For paid flying we are sticking to OW but I will be crediting to BA-easier to reach OWE.

Also next year I reach LTP with SPG and hopefully thereafter with Marriott. We are already starting to widen the net and will be staying in more aspirational and boutique hotels. There will still be some SPG hotels we will continue to use as they have been as loyal to us as we to them.

Lifetime status is certainly an interesting subject but with lots of personal differences.
