I recently transited through LHR twice in a week.

On the first visit, I went to the CX lounge for breakfast (the QF lounge not yet being open), then moved over to QF. (SIN-xLHR-VIE QF>BA)
Entering the QF lounge, they asked if I'd been there before (no, the lounge having opened 2 weeks after my prior LHR visit) and was given a quick tour.

The lounge agent remembered me when I came back through 4 days later. I went to the QF lounge after getting to T3, (DOH-xLHR-LAX QR>AA) then moved to AA after the LAX flight posted a delay as there would be more updates about the flight there.
When I was leaving the QF lounge, I asked what it was like to have 4 oneworld lounges (or 7 if you count the F and J CX, BA and AA lounges as 2 even when they are in the same lounge zone with the same reception desk) next to each other.

The agent replied that a lot of people lounge hopped and gave the example of going to CX for food, then over to QF for drinks.

How many people here lounge hop at LHR?

This may be a silly question, next year we will be travelling in J BA departing LHR to Austria. Can we choose which lounge we visit? Not just the BA lounge.

You would be entitled to access any Oneworld lounge, but if you're flying out of Terminal 5 at LHR then there might not be much choice.

Yes sadly flying out of terminal 5, oh well there goes that idea!

You can move between terminals can’t you?
[if ‘yes’, you probably wouldn’t do it unless you’re killing a reasonable amount of time]

Depending upon your status, and class of travel, you can lounge hop in T5. BA has three J lounges, an F lounge and the CCR. The main lounge complex is at T5 South with a J, F and the CCR lounges. There is a J lounge at T5 North and one at the B concourse. (You need to be flying from the B concourse.....although there are ways and means to get to and from the different concourses!) There are also a couple of paid lounges.

If you are a OWE or flying First you get to use the F check in suite, with its own security channels attached - it really is a pleasure to use, and drops you right into the F lounge airside. (I will clear immigration, using my UK passport, and re-enter through the F suite because it is faster than the transfer process when connecting at T5.)

Thanks for that information, no status just QF silver but flying in J. So at least there looks to be a couple of options.

Some BA flights are out of T3. There is a list of destinations that go from T3. VIE is one of them.

Well I tried out both the CX and QF lounges on Monday night (very easy to do since they're right next to each other!). My favourite by far was the CX lounge - much less crowded and the noodle bar is fantastic. The Qantas lounge did have the gin bar and some food plates available to order (including salt & pepper squid) but was too crowded and the guy serving customers at the gin bar was downright rude.

Interesting about the bar person. I've seen that mentioned elsewhere.

I wonder if it was the same guy?

For the record, it wasn't just me that thought this. The couple sitting behind me were also talking about how rude he was.

Always. I'm normally heading out on QF2 in the evening, so I hit the CX F Lounge for a shower and something to eat, then relax looking out the window with a glass or two of bubbles. Then as the flight get closer, head off to the QF Gin Bar for a drink or two - to help me sleep, especially if my upgrade to J hasn't come through.

I've always had really good service at the Gin Bar, but it's always been a bar-maid serving. But it is often very crowded, which is why I leave it to last.
