Arriving from DUB on BA, presumably T5, on a Tuesday afternoon. Departing to YYZ on AC, T2, next morning (Wednesday). Travelling with wife and two kids, so we're booking for connecting rooms. Currently have a booking at the Crowne Plaza at T4 at ~GBP78 per room, and I can now get the Courtyard on northern perimeter for ~GBP93 per room.

I have Gold status with both IHG (pretty much worthless) and Marriott (better). Both hotels are rated very highly (4.5+ on TripAdvisor). Courtyard is almost brand-new, having opened during COVID, and the Crowne Plaza looks pretty decent too. Crowne Plaza is a bit further from runways, and T4 will still be closed, so it will be quieter. But Courtyard is probably quicker to T2 in the morning.

Has anyone stayed at either (or both) who would like to give an opinion? Otherwise, do people think I should stick with the Crowne Plaza or switch to the Courtyard?

I booked Crowne Plaza for next Thursday hoping that Qatar would move to T4. Yep. Will report next week on how it is now. Unfortunately we have to schlep from T5 as arriving from Inverness on BA but the flight next day should be easy.

I did in the end move us to the Courtyard instead of the Crowne Plaza. The Courtyard was brand-new and the rooms were well-furnished but there were a bunch of little annoyances that added up so I wouldn't recommend it probably.

But it was a very quick easy trip to T2 in the morning.

And we breakfasted in the Maple Leaf Lounge but I briefly went and checked out the United Club on my own and I would say it was better in terms of both food and drink.

Hotel Hoppa bus is easy.

Sofitel by far best T5 option but you’ll pay the premium for the short walk. Can be very much worth it if very early departure or late arrival (or both).

Holiday Inn Aeriel was dated but adequate and worth the (cheap) price when I used in 2019.

T4 station now open. Fingers crossed not impacted by strike next week.
I imagine it will be a much reduced service to start off with? The T2/3/5 Piccadilly service was pretty much back to normal a few weeks ago.

We missed the opening of the Elizabeth Line by two weeks - not that it was going to be particularly handy to where we were staying but on my next visit I’ll be looking to see if there is reasonable accommodation close to one of the stations. Especially once trains pass through Paddington without requiring a change!

We have a morning JAL departure 9.40am from T3 in May next year.
I originally thought to stay at the Sofitel, T5 but now realise it is not practical.

We will be dropping our rental care off the afternoon before. So any recommendations for a hotel best positioned to T3?

More modest than the Sofitel, Hilton Garden Inn T2 & 3 (not the one with similar name that is not actually at the airport). Not very well signposted from the terminal but easily accessed across an interior car park (worth looking up instructions in advance on how to find it).
My room was quiet and comfortable. I can't report on food but it gets reasonably good reviews.

That's where we've booked for flight at end of December from Terminal 3 at 9.40am. Good to know.

Wow over $500 for 1 night in June! More than $100 more expensive than the Sofitel at T5
Is it worth staying at a hotel near T4 and getting a taxi?

The trains/subs are easy to navigate between terminals. Ours is $343 in late December. The Olympics in Paris might be creating price issues for you.

The other option for hotels “near” LHR are those close to Paddington. Just add 15 mins for the HEX.

Bath Road hotels can also be significantly cheaper than the on airport hotels, even after adding on the cost of an Uber or taxi. Last year paid 70 GBP for a night at the Moxy. Although obviously not as convenient as on airport, not that much different to using a T4 hotel when not actually using T4 for arrival or departure .

Yes we are also staying in a suite at Staybridge Apartments on Bath road which is also right near where we collect our hire car. Simply tubing into London for touristy things. Cost for suite inc breakfast - $140 a night.

Are most of the hire car offices near Bath road?
We have to drop back our hire car the afternoon before our flight. So may be just as convenient staying somewhere there.
I haven’t booked the rental car yet.

Most of the car rental places are near Bath road but you can always get their shuttle back to the terminal. Sometimes pre pandemic they would drop you back to one of the off airport hotels but it wasn't consistent. Not sure if they still might do it post pandemic.
