LHR-HEL on AY or BA?

I have a J booking LHR-HEL to make and can choose from AY or BA metal.

I am quite familiar with BA's club Europe (not thrilling) but whats the common perception of AY service in the premium end? Better, same, worse?

Both fly A320s on this run...

I haven't flown AY on a short sector (such as HEL-LHR or vv) but I have flown both BA and AY long haul (LHR-SIN and HEL-BKK respectively) and I would take AY any day for friendly and competent service. The food and drinks were better on AY, and the crew did not have the stuffy aloofness which BA crew can portray.

I would take BA for LHR-HEL and take AY for HEL-LHR. Reasons being that if there is a delay or problem with the aircraft, the "home" airline is more likely to be able to find a substitute aircraft to operate the service.

Both depart LHR from Terminal 1 and HEL Terminal 2 so the lounge access is the same. Both use A320 with 2x3 seating in J cabin. Food and service is similar in my experience having used both BA and AY for this route.

I do like the way AY show video from the nose camera on the IFE monitors during takeoff and landing. But the resolution is not great.

NM makes a valid point. I have flown both on this route, and would give AY a slight "intangible" edge in service - they just seemed more friendly, and more helpful than the BA crews I have had. On the ground, your handling and benefits are identical either way at both airports.

I would also use the schedule timing as a Major decision factor. Not much else to differentiate.

Also note that of crediting to QF FF program, you get the Status Bonus applied to BA flights and not to AY flights.
