If i have booked a non refundable/non changeable return flight, and I want to ditch the last leg of the return without changing the status of my ticket in any way (as my subsequent plans have changed and i need to be somewhere else at the end of the trip), can I advise Virgin that I want my bags to be delivered at the second last stop or do I need to send my bags home via freight and just exit the plane when i'm done (advising virgin that i wont be on the last segment to be polite)?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You can check bags to your end point and don't have to check them all the way through.

Note that VA could in theory reprice your ticket for the actual journey and bill you for any difference. In practice this does not happen but just be conscious of the risk.

thx for your response - could that happen if i didnt ask them to check my bags for the intended trip endpoint - but just didn't do the last component and freighted my bags home?

If I recall correctly, security procedures would result in your bags being removed from the last flight if you do not board.

When you get to the airport, I would just say that you had to change your plans last minute for whatever reason and will only be taking the first leg of the flight.

Sorry formy lack of clarity - by end point, I meant the point at which you want to stop the journey and not the end point per the ticket.

The problem with telling them at the airport is that it might trigger the re-ticketing question.

For example if currently ticketed syd-bne-cns and now terminating in bne - just ask for your bags to be checked syd-bne. If challenged you can just say something like "a friend is meeting me at the airport as I have a gift for them in checked luggage". I wouldn't be flagging that you aren't flying the distance ticketed.
