After 5 weeks in USA, sitting in LA, heading home on QF12 tonight Feb 21st 2350hours

So I booked this rewards some 4 months ago.
I had seats allocated and I checked it all 5 weeks ago prior to leaving Aus. I have email confirmation.

I just went online checkin and discovered its now QF16 Feb 22nd.

3 hours prior to checking out of Loews Hollywood hotel, cannot extend as they are full due to Oscars.
How the hell can they just change my flight by 24 hours, no contact Email or SMS.

Original Flight QF12 Feb 21st is still going, checked it on LAX website.

This is incredible. Called 1800, "we are very busy. please call back".

Anyone any idea what is happening. This is total c... , I need to be back on Saturday, I do not believe that Qantas can do this without even contacting.

Best to try and speak to reservations, but Looks like QF12 has been delayed so they must be accommodating you on another flight?

Whatever the situation I would expect some sort of contact.. LAX website shows flight as still going. What happens if I didnt try online checkin and went to LAX as per tix. This is a 24 hour delay, do they expect passengers just to wear extra costs.

I am not trying to stick up for them, but if it just been a last minute operational issue that has caused this I would expect they would have a lot of passengers to call.
Hence why it's best just to call them (even if you have to wait) and find out whats happening, as QF are usually great handling irregular Ops.

Good luck, let us know how you go.

I think you will find that QF 11 which was to be a A380 went "unservicable" out of Sydney and a 744 was substited thus QF 12 is now a 744.
No doubt they cant fit everyone on that flight.

I believe QF11 had some issues yesterday, certainly a 744 was swapped in for a 388 - it must have some flow back effect.

See this thread on FT: My first experience with QF in a long while...

At the very least, Qantas need to put you up for the night.

I have tried calling QF again, still telling me long delays, I had the same problem a few months ago(Virgin) and cost me over $200- in phone calls waiting for no reply. That turned out to be a loss to me as VA refused to issue written conf. of delay so Ins. Co. denied. Not going down that loss track again due to Airlines inability to answer me within reasonable time. Transport booked for 1 hours time to take me to LAX and Loews Hotel here has no vacancy (Oscars , all fully booked) so no option but to go to LAX and see what happens.

Are you calling the AU number or USA number?

Go use a hotel phone and call the US 1800 number if you haven't already done so.

1 800 227 4500

US 1800 , waited 30 minutes 2 times, nothing. At best I can expect to be told of delay, doesnt help with accommodation tonight and tomorrow.

If you do have your original ticket - I'd be getting to the airport and letting them sort it out. Probably much easier than trying over the phone

I would go to the airport and go to check-in for the flight. When they say you have been moved to a different flight, ask them where they will be putting you up for the night and how they will be providing cover for costs (accommodation, ground transport, meals, phone calls home to notify work/family or change arrangements etc).

I was on QF 11 yesterday. Was changed to a 747 (with no F class) causing a few problems in Sydney. I was put on today's flight which is operating as normal, hopefully!

VH-OJT which operated QF11 when VH-OQA went unserviceable in Sydney is now also unserviceable resulting in the overnight delay to QF12.

VH-OJT has just returned from 10 weeks scheduled maintenance.

Doesnt really inspire confidence in what I will be flying in.

So rocked up at LAX and joined the unhappy passengers, many who did know of the delay until getting there.
Some had been contacted but majority not contacted, like myself.
Shuttled off to Holiday Inn with meal vouchers. $26- voucher for dinner, just enough for Main course at the Holiday Inn Restaurant but not enough for Entree or Dessert.
Not even a Beer, thanks Qantas, we have to buy all our own drinks. At least when this happened with VA last year they paid for unlimited F&B...
We have a flight time for tomorrow, 21 hour delay, but no word yet of connections ( PER in my case). Paid for better seats on A380, wont be getting them..

Well depending on the 747 you will get, the seats would be exactly the same - OJT is refurbed isn't she?

OJT is refurbed with A380 interior.

They may still operate an A380 on the delayed Qf12 service, if they turn around today's inbound QF11 or QF93 to operate the delayed service, as it looks like they have delayed QF12 to 8.20pm tomorrow now, rather than 8am.

If you are after an A380 flight back to Australia on 22nd, and don't mind going via MEL, QF94 LAX-MEL has about 80 empty seats in Y, currently showing on Expert Flyer, if I'm reading it right. Still a day late for you though.

Empty seats on EF just mean the seat is unallocated - not how many unsold seats there are

OK. Thanks. My mistake in that case. I had thought that all sold fares would've been allocated a seat by now.

The fare bucket loadings tell a better tale: - basically wide open in economy, QF94 is nuked in Business but I expect 7012 is the special with plenty of premium/Business room:

Tells me, no upgrades on QF94 but plenty of space in Economy (X9 on QF94 and 24 economy award seats available all up)
