Flight 18 out of JFK was delayed by at least 3 hours tonight. I get that - out of people control and so be it. (I was to join it at LAX - to depart 11.55)
However what is staggered me was that NO announcement was made in the OW J lounge. They claim there was 1 but I seriously doubt it. As I checked in very early I was not advised at the check in counter. ( it was 7 hours before) NO effort was made at all the advise OW lounge passengers.
Apparently If I had checked in later I would have been given the option to change to QF12 - 90 minutes earlier. However somebody decided earlier checked in pax would not be given the option!!!!!! I would have even taken the Brisbane flight . what a disgrace - not even an apology given - just told well its your fault you should have checked the board. So now I missed the connection to gold coast as well. Is this normal with delayed internationals - no announcements and no giving other options ?

Qantas employ contract staff at LAX. From memory their attitude towards customers has been questioned quite a few times recently.

Providing Qantas feedback is the only way these issues could be addressed.

I'm usually very sympathetic to these situations, but with your checking in 7 hours prior, the JFK flight would barely have been late then, so at that stage, as its the same aircraft, they presumably were keeping people as they were. And its the usual modus operandi not to make announcements in the lounges, so one does have to keep looking at the board (or, better still, subscribe to TripIt, which sends you SMSs on delays and gate changes, usually well be fore the boards say so and before announcements, when they are available).

But that doesn't excuse any 'attitude' in the lounge, or discourtesy when dealing with pax. And given its a QF operated OW lounge at LAX I would have hoped they would have sought out affected pax when the extent of the delay was evident.
